I bought my lady a glock 34 mos because she likes to shoot some local steel challenge matches.
Probably will end up with a vortex venom. But I'm open to reviews.
Mostly interested I'd a 3 or 6moa dot is better.???
Thanks

I was just shooting my steel plates this weekend with a guy that had an Eotech with the small dot. [It may have been adjustable, I dunno first time I've shot one of those] Those are definitely not as picky about perfect head alignment- pretty amazing really. I always shoot stock class open sighted pistols...so I'm probably not the best guy to ask.

FWIW, I thought the dot was too small. If you are shooting long range with a rifle it would have been fine...but too small for 25 yds and in, IMHO.

I shoot USPSA and my Carry Optics setup is a Glock 34 with Leupold Delta Point Pro. I got the triangle version (7.5 MOA). The apex of the triangle is sighted in for more precise shots and the larger triangle makes for quick acquisition on closer targets. I've shot a full year with it now without issue.

I can tell ya the Delta Point on my G40 sucks and I am looking hard at the Burris Fastfire 3 because there will be times (when traveling in grizz country) when the 10mm will serve double duty as my carry weapon around town. The Delta's triangle is way too big IMHO. it's an obstruction beyond 10 yards.

I would go with just about anything over the venom. I’ve had to send 2 back for various issues. I prefer a trijicon RMR, or the new SRO would do well with target shooting, larger sight picture. As far as reticle size, I prefer smaller for detail work, but if it’s solely for steel competitions, a larger dot or triangle might be quicker.

Experience- several hundred thousand rounds with red dots on pistols starting with the JPoint in mid 2,000’s. Nearly all of them have been used.

The RMR 02 and Aimpoint Acro are the only two worth looking at for any use beyond “play”.

Have tried and used everything from a 1moa to 13moa dot. For some reason a lot of people recommend bigger dots and I’m not sure why if they’ve actually used a 2-3 MOA dot. For me, and everyone I work work with we want nothing to do with anything bigger than around 3moa. And a dot- no triangles, donuts, chevrons or any other nonsense.... just - 2-3 MOA dot.

Ive had a few of the earlier fast fires, a few vortex (carbines, shotguns and my bullseye pisol) and now have an RMR on the G20.
One burris stopped holding zero but the others were fine. RMR seems most robust and fits the slide best. Time will tell if she holds up.
Id tend to agree with Formi on the dot size but i guess that's all preference.

Buy a trijicon rmr 06 type 2 and be done with it. DPP is more for gaming. Set the brightness in the middle on the RMR and forget about it. Change the battery every year on your birthday and you're good to go.

So pulling this back up as I've been sitting on my wallet and its almost Christmas.

Few of you said a 3 moa dot.
But when I looked up the model numbers you recommended the rmr 02 is 6.5 moa
And the rmr04 is 7

And does anyone have experience with the US Optics Drs 2.0 enhanced?

You do not want a dot bigger than about 3ish moa. Dot size does not affect how quickly you can pick up the dot. That is based on form and muscle memory. If your form is inconsistent and you can't consistently place the dot in the window, then you can have a 15 moa dot and it will not help you. 3 moa dot is the standard in my opinion but I am considering trying a 1 moa dot just for kicks

Thank you.

At this point I'd feel guilty burning up ammo.
But she enjoys pistols and I want her to stay half way proficient
I want reliable.
But also its hard to break off 5 bills.
Lol I think the pistol was only 6 ish

I’ve ran RMR Glocks of several sizes and calibers almost exclusively (target shooting and concealed carry) since 2011. The RMR is the standard by which others are measured. Nothing else is as reliable and durable.
I can only tell the difference between the 3.5 MOA and 6.5 MOA dots (I own multiples of both) is on a shot over 25 yards or if I shoot one right after the other. I personally prefer the smaller one and the adjustable RMR so I can adjust the brightness when it seems necessary. That said I’ve never had a real problem with the auto adjust models. The dual illuminated models work really well but in bright sunlight the dot can get out of hand bright and obscure even close targets.
Most important thing you can do to help, no matter which brand or dot size you choose, is get the correct height iron sights so you can see them through the sight. When sighted in correctly, just start to align the irons the same way you always have and the dot will appear. Once you can see the dot the sights don’t matter anymore and you can forget about them.
Practice, of course, is paramount.
Enjoy it. Once you start using one it’s hard to go back. My daily carry pistol for a few years has been an RMR G34 because it just works so well I can’t stand the idea of having anything else.

Look up sage dynamics on youtube. He has done some real torture tests and the only ones to really survive are the end and holosun. I think the holosun would be excellent if you are not wanting to spring for Trijicon

Have you and your folks spent time behind the Holosun 507C and 507K?

Yes, but the amount of rounds and use isntanywhere near what it is with the RMR’s and Acro’s. And to be clear, while certainly reliable enough for more than play use, even the Type 2 RMR’s still aren’t 100% there, or at least haven’t been in what I’ve experienced. The Type 1’s I expected 10k rounds life out of. Some would go down sooner, and some lasted longer. The Type 2 are about the same, except for 20k rounds. The Acro’s have been excellent, save the shorter battery life- but no failures or issues with multiple nearing 50k rounds. The Holosun 507’s are probably usable, however I do not have enough use to feel confident saying either way.
