Glock red dot.

I have a Glock 19 MOS and I’m finally looking at making the jump to actually putting some type of red dot system on it. Is the RMR type 2 still be the most recommended.
What have you guys used, what do you like?

Next question has anybody put a red dot on a Glock 26 or 27?

I have a RMR Type 2 on a Sig and I really like it so far. Seemed the best option for durability on a handgun slide.

RMR is by far the most reliable of the options, I run the RM06. Pick up a forward controls design MOS plate too, the factory Glock plates are garbage.

Recommended and best option are different. I see over 100k rounds a year shot with red dots on pistols with every optic thus far named. The Aimpoint Acro P2 is by far the the pick.

Lots. They are sub par to shoot.

Can you talk about RMR failures a bit? What seems to be the weak point?

I just bought a RMR for a Glock 34…and then found out I have to get the slide machined for it to be mounted.
It was an impulse purchase, it popped up for sale on another forum at a great price and I snagged it as quick as I saw the ad.
I bought the site from a cop, he said he bought it for his service gun before the department furnished them to everybody that wanted one. He said he the entire department is running these and they love them.

There are mounts that lock in to the rear sight dovetail. I have used them many times. Sit a little higher but cheaper option for non-machined slides. Check ebay etc

I think the RMR is almost an out of date design. You shouldn’t have to take a sight off to change a battery. I still worry about Holosun and reliability. A lot of people swear by them but I still see more failures than I would like. I have about 4 ACRO’s and that would be my first choice.

They’re just hard guns to shoot well at speed. Very hard (especially the G27) compared to a slightly larger pistol such as a G19- which is itself not the most shootable pistol.

The Type 2’s generally are reliable for about 20k rounds. Some have adjustments that go out, but their main issue is an open emitter. When the only options were open emitters, ok. Now that there is a real closed emitter RD (Acro), open emitters should be obsolete.

That makes sense, I appreciate it.

I am an RMR fan, but there are plenty of good options out there. I think you should also consider your application ... If it's for self defense vs playing at the range, competition etc ... I would guess EDC / Self defense given what you bought. Also consider that will fully enclosed emitters are cool, they can be a bit tougher to conceal and all optics can impact which holsters you can use etc ...

I was fortunate enough to take Scott Jedlinski's Modern Samurai Project class this summer (HIGHLY recommended). He is widely respected for his abilities with an RDS and here are some of his thoughts -


The Steiner MPS has not passed nor been tested enough to say whether they are viable. The Holosun fails pretty often when seen in large numbers, and where zero retention is tracked.


As far as his comments about open emitters and rain…. It’s not just rain. It’s fogging from warm car to cold air, or cold car to warm air, dust, debris, snow. There is no advantage to an open emitter.

What pistols do you consider more shootable that are competitors to the G19?

Sig P365 XL and Sig P320 for polymer pistols. Not a fan of Sig, but they are in fact easier to shoot. G19’s are good pistols, just saying.

What don’t you like about Sig? We only own Glocks but I’ve been thinking of getting a Sig 365 (XL or X macro).

It’s the company, not the actual guns. Great designs, but use the customer as beta testers.
