I might as well be bringing up Trumps impeachment with this thread topic.....

What are your thoughts on modding a glock? What mods (if any) do you like? How do they work for you?

Any horror stories?

Mods include but not limited to: slide cuts, trigger, stippling, cocking serrations, grip reductions, etc

Factory triggers are a little rough and heavy, I think a trigger and plunger are a good mod. I replace my sights with trijicon night sights, specifically the orange ring front sight.

23lb spring and a KKM barrel for my 30SF makes it a .45 Super.
I would like to get some XS night sights for it and my G27.

I think they are a money pit for people that like to mod. For years I heard how great the triggers were but everyone one also tends to upgrade or replace it. Sights are the only worthwhile upgrade on factory pistols. Plus you'll never get out of the pistol that you put into it, so the resale value won't return your investment. Before you realize it, you'll have over a grand in a plastic gun.

I tend to run my pistols as is from the factory, except for my 2 PX4's that have the 92 style safety lever since the original dug into my skin. I might refinish a few someday, but they have all held up to my abuse so far so I don't see the need just yet.

I put trijicon night sights on mine as well, and a light. left everything else alone.

I got out of that mind frame awhile ago, unless it serves an actual need like a locker for a truck, or a better seat for the motorcycle then yea. But exhaust, trigger kits, racing stripes, hood, slide cuts........i'll pass.

I realized it's better to save that money and put it towards things that really matter, or a new gun

I haven't done any of the stuff you're contemplating. My 29 has night sights, 22lb spring, and a 4.8 inch kkm barrel. Shoots heavy 220 hardcasts very nicely. Takes about a,minute to put factory barrel and spring back in. Makes a nice compact fairly potent backcountry sidearm....

I'm not too interested in doing more, but if it floats your boat...do it and have fun!

My G17 is stippled, cerakoted, has Trijicon night sites, Lone Wolf threaded barrel, tungsten guide rod, Zev trigger and a Zev mag well and polished internals.

I didn’t do any of the work, it was a retirement present. I got it about three years ago and I’ve put several thousand rounds through it.

Most of my glocks get extended slide releases from Vickers. For a bear defense gun I might stick with a #5.5 pound trigger but the ghost connectors and a few minutes of polishing are worth the $12 and 1 hour (more like 30 mins).

I like the Ameriglo sights with tritium front surrounded by orange. For the rear sights I go idot (1 dot front and back) or hacathorn (no rear dot).

Could you elaborate some on the trigger work?
I am new to Glock. Ghost connector?
What do you polish?
I am capable of doing this, just need more info, please.

The Gen 5 is close to perfection for me. Ameriglo Bold sights are great, ambi controls are awesome for this lefty, grip is great, and the trigger is a lot better than previous generations. Having said that, I have been looking at some flat face triggers to shorten the take up, over travel and reset...and I put the slide from a G45 on it just because I like the forward serrations.

Sure. Note that these mods are for gen 4 and earlier guns. Gen 5 triggers are better and have some variance to the below...

The trigger connector is a part that offers the easiest way to mod the trigger pull weight on a glock. The OEM part is about 6# and a bit gritty on gen 4 and below. Probably the biggest bang for your buck in terms of getting a glock to shoot better. Some polish it a bit with a Dremel and reinstall. Others go with an after market. I used the Ghost patrol version on some guns that I want to be in that 5.5# trigger pull range (self defense) and the 3.5# version on some guns that I use in pistol matches. Swapping the part takes a couple of minutes, a punch and a kitchen knife. A quick search of YouTube will turn up a good how to on this. Here is a source on the part:

The trigger polish is easy as well. Most call it the $0.25 trigger job. It involves a disassembly of the slide and part of the trigger group. You polish about 6 contact points in the trigger mechanism with Flitz or polishing compound. A Dremel or some Q-Tips work well. This is a good write up and there are some good videos as well. Probably takes less than an hour and it will smooth up the whole trigger action.

The slide release is a 5 minute swap job.

In terms of other mods, I have never chopped up the slide on mine. I wouldn’t mind front cocking serrations but I use a sling shot method to cock and clear malfunctions when I am shooting with a purpose. I have big hands so grip reduction isn’t my thing. I stippled one gun. Easy to do with a wood burner and some really go in for it. If you are going to add an RMR or something think about an MOS version or aftermarket slide. You may come out ahead vs. having one cut.
