"... Then why did you bother? TSS is throwing away dollar bills for no reason if you arent going to utilize its advantages. ..."
Because the .410 was a "gift" for the express purpose of turkey hunting. My hope is that it will make the .410 more effective....but I won't be using them for any 40 yard shots
I have no doubt that TSS is awesome, but not at the cost of the ammo. If TSS was more affordable, I would probably go full TSS.
As it is, I have about 15 boxes of 16 gauge 6's, 7's and 8's and nobody loads TSS in 16 gauge commercially. Not yet anyway.
I just reread bluetick78's original post. I believe he's asking why there isn't something besides expensive TSS that reliably kills turkeys at the 40 yard or plus ranges and what that may be.
Quick story. Years ago, lauded outdoor writer Phil Bourjaily published a story.
He had been testing one of the magnificent, magnum, turkey specific ammos. I don't recall which. (Longbeard?)
Bourjaily claims that a bird hung up on him at (IIRC) 60 yards or so. Stating he had tested his shotgun with the ammo, he felt confident in attempting the shot. He did and killed the turkey!
I might suggest that "bluetick78" ask his question of Mr. Bourjaily at Field and Stream.
