Gap Shooters - Do You Reference The Riser Too?

For those of you that gap shoot do you reference anything on the riser as part of your aiming process? Or just solely go off the gap from the arrow?

I'd been working off the tip of the arrow but heard someone mention referencing some marks they put on their riser on a podcast and am interested in exploring that a bit too possibly.

I tried using the riser, made up some stickers for yardage and it did nothing but screw me up. Moving your eyes up and down for yardage is one thing to gap off of arrow point. Add in additional left and right eye movement and I was all over the place. I am sure someone can but I was not able to do it.

I shoot strictly off marks off my riser. 20-30-35-40. I think it works very well. I also have a low Olympic style anchor. This was an easy transition from compound for me and way better then trying a higher anchor

I only reference my riser when I gap, I never use the tip of my arrow. This is because I have a lower anchor and my arrows are shorter because of a short draw length. I wish I could use the tip of my arrow but the gap would be so big that I would have to put the tip somewhere around 15-20 feet in front of the target, which isn’t practical.

I don't, because they are only useful when you shoot your bow vertically, or I guess if you cant it the exact same amount all the time they would work, but it's a legitimate way to aim if you do, one of the reasons they have a lot of the equipment rules they have in barebow competitions and the like. You could play with it easy enough putting some rubber bands around your riser to use as moveable aiming points till you find the right spots to mark

Started gapping with tip of arrow and tried the riser and hated it. Im not great at shooting off my point on so I was looking for something to help me get dialed and couldnt make it work.
I facewalk (I think that what is called) and have a 20 yard anchor and 30 that works well enough for my hunting distance

I use both the arrow tip and the riser. I use them at different yardages. For an example at 20 yards, the point of the arrow is so far below the target that I find it hard to visualize a fine gap. So instead I visualize where the target sits within the riser cut out. Now, once I get closer to 30 yards I begin using the arrow tip because it gets closer to the target in my sight picture.

Gap shooting is not a science and you have to find out what works best for you and your set up. Also, don't be afraid to mix and match different aiming methods at different yardages, different scenarios, etc.

Riser gap shooter here. Till I reach my point on, anyways. I still reference the left/right alignment of my arrow before I set the vertical gap and start expanding.

I gap of the riser, arrow, arrow rest(pad), and where that pad meets the shelf. I’ve got a long draw 31.25” and a low anchor. I find my gap then transfer focus to the spot I want to hit and blur the gap, if that makes sense. Because of that I will use parts of the broad head while hunting because it’s faster for me and easier to see while not focused on it. I use the riser pad when using field points and game heads.

That is very helpful illustration- I still dont think I could reference the side of the riser for anything, but maybe along the shelf for further yardages...
