I've only ever had the OR's. What are the differences between the three? The thing I dislike about my OR's is that they are black, and if I set up and glass for a bit in a sunny spot, they heat up quickly. Minor issue, but enough to notice. They have been very durable and reliable for the five years I've owned them.
OR Crocs here. Their customer service is unreal. I've worn out a couple pairs, didn't feel like they owed me anything, and bought a new pair. But I know guys who've returned them for a new pair after years and years of use. Kinda abuse of the warranty IMO, but still impressive that OR honoured it, no questions asked. The only gripe I have about them, is that the Velcro tab on the toe wears out to easily. Nothing that really effects function tho.
I've used the Or warranty on a puffy jacket and came away very, very impressed with how they handle things.
I've been happy with the 2nd generation Kuiu gaiters I have. I trashed both buckles in a week with my 1st generation pair and they sent me a pair of the 2nd generation.
My experience comes from kenetrek and the new kuius. Have run threw 3 pairs of kenes each lasting one season. Pros they keep you reasonably dry, cons for this neck of the woods with lots of brush they end up torn and they don't stay up real well. The kuius as well have lasted only one season but stay up much better, keep you drier and are a little more durable than the kenes. I will go with set of kuius.
I use OR Crocs and Expedition Crocs. Never had to send any back. Put a crampon point through the calf of one and repaired it myself and it's still going strong.
I use black gaiters, but I'm worried the color really sticks out like a sore thumb (I wear sage green pants and first lite dry earth top, which blend really well where I am). They work well though, so I feel bad about buying another pair...
im another solid fan of the ORs. i wear them all winter at work as a surveyor, and they hold up to brush awesome. they dont hold up to all the barbed wire fence crossings i dont pull off cleanly, but nothing would. a strip of duct tape on the inside over the slice keeps them going no problem though. on the down side, hunting, they can be loud .(and im nit picking,as a bowhunter).
I've never had a problem with burrs sticking to my ORs. I wear them a lot here on the west side, there isn't many burrs here, but I also use them in Idaho and never had a problem with the burrs
Kenetreks repel burrs but the cheap $0.02 plastic buckle renders the gaiters pretty much useless after about 200 yards of hiking. I'm putting elastic cords and cord locks on them.
I've used the Kuiu, Kenetrek and three different OR gators, along with a few others.
Honestly the Kuiu have been the best overall with the Kenetreks and OR crocodile gators being close seconds. I'm currently using the crocodiles and have been pretty happy. Due to the way that Kuiu runs their business, I refuse to use their products. OR on the other hand, has outstanding customer service as others have mentioned and will continue to get my business.
Rivers West for me. Just got back from a trek in and out of a wilderness area in BC and they performed great. I like the soft uppers and the neoprene bottom wrap held tight. Small creek crossings-no problem.
