I'm going to buy a G20 for bear protection. They make a Gen 4 and a SF(short frame). Which one and why? Thanks

Frame wise, the gen 4 without an added back strap is the same depth as a gen 3 sf.

Get the G20 Gen 4.

The Gen 4 has a redesigned/ more aggressive grip texture (Gen 3 is more of a smooth texture). Gen4 comes with backstraps to fit different size hands. It has an enlarge magazine release and comes with 3 magazines instead of 2 with the Gen3.

I have a Gen2, Gen 3 and Gen 4 in different models. I prefer the grip texture of the Gen4. If possible, I recommend holding them at your LGS.

If your buying it for a woods/ bear gun I would definitely go with a full size grip

If you're in Kalifornistan... they only sell the SF here. Because of that stupid Handgun Roster BS.

2nd this. The 20 is a beefy grip. The sf may fit you better if you have smaller hands Or prefer a shorter LOP.
