Frank church access

I’m trying to find information on road/vehicle access into the Frank. There doesn’t seem to be to much on the web, and I’ve spent considerable time on GE but it’s still very hard to tell what’s what. Any body got any insight their willing to share ?

It is a wilderness area... no vehicle access

You can only get to the edges. Inside the wilderness area there are no roads or vehicle access. Horseback or feet traffic is all you get.

When you say edges I see a few roads coming off of 21 north of Stanley. Are those actual roads or just trails ?? How far do they go ?? One is coming up (008) is this a forest service road ??

Spend some time with the motor vehicle use map. Some “roads” are not really roads in my mind. Terrible place to drive as all the roads receive minimal access, are really rocky, and go over high elevation passes. Almost have gone off the road multiple times there and that hasn’t happened to me anywhere else. There’s a reason why many fly in to get access.

Many nonresidents are unaware of the well documented issue with low critter numbers there and heavily skewed statistics due to over 10 outfitters in the unit. It’s a busy place these days due to popularity.

Great country if you really want to give it a go. Have a ball.

A lot of them are two-lane dirt roads that turn into single-lane dirt roads you just have to watch out for washed out roads from runoff.
One year I hunted at the Rapid River trailhead North East on Stan Lee Stan Lee. Spent 14 days in that area.

Appreciate the info... exactly what I was after. Boots on the ground can be more helpful then eyes in the sky at times. I live in Boise but this will be my first trip into the Frank and I’m really looking forward to heading up there in the middle of September. I’m not expecting a whole lot as far as numbers are concerned (animals that is). I’m hoping the terrain will have a limiting factor on the number of people sightings

Went the 2nd week of October. The year I went snow didn't hit till the 2nd to last day of my hunt 10 inches over night.
Most animals I saw were middle mountain, alot of side hilling hunting.

you can come up to it from the southwest . through yellowpine ,up stibnite road . drive to thunder mtn area. then you must pack in from there, up big creek . probly easier ways to get in there though
