Yeah, I started out with the toy hauler
/conversion trailer idea burned into my head pretty strongly and that has been my main search for a while. It looks like a boat is to join the fleet soon enough so the option of towing either a boat or a 4 wheeler trailer plus having a camper on the back is seeming way more logical. Plus many times (during archery elk especially), im towing no bikes and it would be awesome to have a little back country home without having to haul a trailer into some nasty crap.
Like you already pointed out, a big truck that I dont really want seems like what im gonna be stuck with unfortunately. I guess it's just the price to play.

I had a popup at one point. It wasnt useable offroad unless you took the jacks off. The typ of jacks the come off easy make ot un usable off the truck so then you are always stuck with it on while hunting or camping. So now every morning i was having to move everything around and put the top down to head to a spot to hunt or go to a boat ramp. Sold the poptop and got a slide in basic camper with electric jacks and fastgun tiedowns. Now i take it off very quick and easy if needed or drive qhere needed without the hassle of putting the top down in a rainstorm in the dark.

I was just looking at some of the Mercedes sprinter platform in the camper class b, but modified for off road. Some really cool options, but holy cow that’s pricey

The vans/sprinters converted to 4x4 by Quigley are pricey. Even the used Quigley Ford E350s are expensive. There is a nicely equiped E350 close to with all the goodies but still 45k.

E250s and 350s are cheap stock though, and the only expensive part of a conversion is the d60 front axle. Use a superduty d50 from a SRW f350 and its pretty cheap. Some ruffstuff brackets, a junkyard trans and tcase, and you're off to the races in your 4wd van. Should be a build thread or two floating around the internet to peruse for the little detail bits.
