I am looking at some horseback rifle elk hunts for my Father. I came across Travis Barker at the local Sportsmans Show in Washington this year. Hunting the elk migration and mule deer rut at the same time appealed to me.

I can't find much information on his outfit and was hoping someone may have some experience with him?

Any information on your experience and general feel of the outfit would be much appreciated!

Ok, I wish I could tell you more. I met him last year at the NFR cowboy Christmas in Vegas. I know nothing of him or their business. I did find it a little strange to not put out a dvd with some more current Hunt results

That was my thought after viewing the DVD. His setup sounds great and then I saw he wasn't fully booked for 2020 or 2021 and that got me questioning things. Just want to see if anyone has any recent experience.

I wanted to update this thread. I have been speaking with Travis Barker at Ford Creek Outfitters for the last year and have been speaking with references of his. It does sound like a pretty legit outfit and my father and I officially have an elk/deer rifle hunt booked with him for November 2023. I will create a thread with our overall experience for anyone looking for information in the future.

Nice scenery, but the area is way too heavily outfitted and extremely low elk success rates. decent muley hunting.

Agreed! Barely any elk left on public land in that country. You will see PLENTY of wolf tracks. I would reconsider doing hunt out there. Especially if you are taking your father on possibly his last elk hunt.

From speaking with references and the guides they say they don't see any other hunters. they are in a migration corridor so they depend on the weather getting the elk moving through their area. The elk funnel through heading for the Sun River Range. is this not the case?

You can get away from other hunters in there, but it’s for a reason. Yes, plenty of wolves, plenty of grizzlies. Neat country, very feast or famine. I have guided and hunted in there a bit, you have a few days a season where you catch the migration, and can get into a lot of elk, but there will be weeks of seeing next to nothing. The main reason I hunt that country any more is just because I love it, not necessarily for the elk hunting.

I spoke to several references from there and maybe one guy in camp would see an elk each week. Its promising but for the cost you could do a similar bob marhsall hunt with the same odds for thousands less.

Spent 15 years guiding in Bob. 2020 being my last year. Pm me if you want more information.

Some of the information on here is accurate. And some of it is pretty far off.
