For you Carnivore guys. How often do you use LMNT

I know this is a semi old thread…. I just found out that LMNT has maltodextrin (corn syrup) in its not listed ingredients and it will spike your blood sugar. And that’s the opposite of what you want on carnivore. They use it in their flavoring process so haven’t really been transparent about it and its not listed in their ingredients. It’s about 400- 550 mg. While they are trying to fend this off in the media as ‘not much’ it is in fact twice the amount as the potassium they add. You do you on your choices with LMNT, but personally I’m pretty bummed out about it and will be making my own electrolyte from now on.

Yea I dont love the lack of transparency. But it certainly does not spike my blood sugar. I have worn a CGM off and on for the last year but totaling about 6 months and have never seen a noticeable spike from LMNT, and for the record I do see a noticeable spike from black coffee (interestingly a smaller one with a few table spoons of heavy cream in it). My average for the last 24 hours has been 93mg/dl and my two highest points were 96 and 97. The 97 came after a cup of coffee but a solid 90 minutes post the LMNT I had this morning. Im not saying there is zero impact but its been basically unnoticeable for me personally.

I have been moving more over to just using baja gold salt anyway when at home though the LMNT packets are handy when traveling or in the back country.

Is this not the case for the “Raw” version?

Good to know @Speaks! I can only report what I’ve read so far, including a case of a type 1 diabetic that was doing few/no-carbs and was having spikes until she stopped LMNT. As a person on carnivore who has been relying on LMNT, I thought it important to share what I found.

Yes @fwafwow, the raw is unflavored therefore has no maltodextrin.

Too easy and much cheaper DIY, as discussed many times.

Might make sense in the case of a type one diabetic. As a reference that is roughly the same amount of carbs as between 1 and 2 blue berries, not cups of them, single blue berries. That amount of glucose is also burned off by roughly 20-40 steps.

I am not full carnivore though and eat veggies so that level of carbs would be meaningless to me. I get it might be to some though.

I'm not an any fancy fad diets. But I'll take two or three lmnt packets during my workouts. Love the stuff. Especially since I don't eat a lot of salt.
