So I've been hanging with this trad guy and haven't made the jump myself (likely next year), anyway he foots his carbon arrows with an aluminum sleeve and he's talked me into giving it a shot with mine. Just curious if any other compound guys do this? Have you noticed any disadvantages?

It makes the end of the arrow extremely strong, especially for blunts and judo's, guys who stump shoot a lot like to do it as it save arrows when done right.

10/4. I've never shot stumps with my compound, so maybe that's why I'm unfamiliar with it. Thanks

I did it with some Gold Tip Kinetics to strengthen the half out/insert. No disadvantage if your arrow is long enough so the footing doesn't interfere with the rest and if the extra 10 grains doesn't affect tune.

I have, works really well.

As stated, stay away from bag targets. I beveled the trailing edge and that helped a little. I like to shoot at random stuff when I'm out hunting, but especially for small game they work really well and saves arrows. Cheap and fun to do

I stopped making my own footings when Ray at VPA came out with his flanged footing. They are better then anything I can make ...

I use a block target and occasionally fiber board targets, it seems to make the arrows marginally easier to draw from those styles with footings on.

I did it with some VAP I had D6 inserts in. It made a world of difference. Like others said I tapered both ends of the footer. The ones I made had a slight whistle in flight.

Because most guys shoot bag targets.

Really? I never really gave it much thought, but I don't think I know anybody that shoots bag targets.

As for the footings, I never really had any need to foot my arrows. But these GT Kinetic 200's are about the least durable arrows I've shot. I might have to consider it.

So far I'm pretty impressed with the arrow performance after footing them. They seem to get better penetration and group just as well as before footing.
