I’ve always used freeze-dried meals, even with base camp/front country hunts, because they’re just too easy. Last thing I want to do after a long day is spend a bunch of time cooking and making a mess. But I’ve started to see some interested options for pre-made, vacuum-sealed meals. That’s appealing to me because a week of rice and noodles can be a beating. For those that have done both, which do you prefer and why?

If truck camping I prefer pre made. Just vacuum seal and place in boiling water to heat up. You can also freeze them in flat Tupperware containers and take one out every morning and let it thaw during the day. For backpacking I like to make my own by buying freeze dried food in bulk containers and then mixing different things together and vacuum seal. You can also make your own if you have a dehydrator but I prefer freeze dried over that.
