Folding hard tonneau cover recommendations

I'm ready to purchase a folding hard tonneau cover, but every one seems to have negative reviews. I'm hoping to get some real world experience from the 'slide.

I had a tri-fold. I never had the truck long enough to have long term type issues. I liked it. That being said I have a topper now and prefer the topper. The trifold limits your truck bed space and when the trifold is “open” it still sticks out 2.5 feet or so and limits truck bed space.

I had one for like a month and my dad had one on a truck for a couple years. As stated above they can cause capacity issues. My dad loved his one minute and then the next he hated it for that very reason. We both went back to a soft roll up cover.

I personally saw zero benefit from it.

I have a retrax aluminum. It's great, no complaints...lockable, I can stand on it, can't be cut open, and I got the one with the rails, PRO XR, so I can install a basket, ect over the bed...Really nice yak on top all my gear locked in the bed...you loose a little space up front for the can, but you can still stash firewood, water, tools underneath.

I have a hard roll cover on my Ram. Truxedo Sentry. I've had it about a year and really like it. Easy to roll up, very protective and it can be removed completely by just sliding 2 latches (once it's rolled up). Sometimes I need the entire bed, so that was a key feature to me.

Backflip has ben great for me, nice and secure but opens up all the way to load back of truck with material and stays up solid while driving. Also can fit most coolers under bed cover for added security. I would say look into height of whatever you haul mostly and see if it can still close.

I've had the Bakflip that's a trifold and now the Bakflip that rolls up but is still fairly hard on top, it's not soft. I got the one that rolls because when hauling a sled or four wheeler I could see through my back window. Doing it again I would probably go back to a folding Bakflip one. I didn't have issues with my folding one in snowy/icy weather but this rolling one can get frozen up when rolled up and throws off the track a little bit. The only downside is it does cover your back window completely but also protects your back window from whatever you're hauling, so that's a plus.

Another vote for bakflip. Super thin, strong and folds up nice and tight against the window.

I have one and loved it when I lived in Charleston. Now that Im in AK I frequently have to go around the edge with a heat gun to get in the bed. It has become a huge annoyance.

Another bakflip fan. I one on my old tundra for two years. Liked it so much I put one on my newer tundra and it is going strong 7 years later In northeast winters. I would say moderate use. I don’t baby it but i don’t hammer it either And it is in fine shape. some dents and dings for character And the finish is a bit worn. A touch of rust on some of the hard wear in addition to normal wear and tear.

3 things to consider and/or gripes:

1 - if someone wanted to get in, they could pry it pretty easy - it seals with plastic tabs. I think that is the case with nearly any cover but worth mentioning.
2- the sides mount with four clamps and mine come off ( one of the rear clamps) once a year or so and I remount them in 5 minutes and all is right with the world.
3 - most important is that they have rubber gaskets that, along with the cover itself, can freeze to the rim of the truck bed. With the right combo of cold, water, ice, snow you can get frozen out of your truck bed. It doesn’t happen often but it has happened to me. Likewise, if you get snow and ice on the edge of the bed while it is open, it will keep the cover from sealing.

Diamondback on my 21 ranger. USA made, LT warranty. Tough, tough!
Expensive though
I added one of their cross bins, very nice set up. No leaks unless you spray water into the edges. Never had water in the bed from power car washes.
Reason I was what type of truck is a small truck such as mine, to haul anything you have to remove the whole cover. Much slower process vs other brands. Your left with a cross bar that the lids mount to limiting what you haul in a small truck.

Another vote for a hard roll-up.

I've had several tonneaus over the years, and never seen the appeal of a tri-fold.

Had a diamondback for 5 years on f250. Enjoyed it be only having half the bed was a pain. Have a undercover triad now and still not happy...cant hold the weight of my large coolers full. If you got bank get a renegade cover...if not get a topper...

Any issues with the Bakflip leaking water?
I have a soft roll up on my other pickup, and it's okay. This will be going on a '15 Sierra with 5'8" bed. I don't haul much with this pu, but I do want the availability of having the full bed accessible.
