Has anybody ever figured out how to pitch the SG Skyscraper fly first? Or figured out a way to pitch it as one single unit? I love this tent, except not being able to do that. That’s one of reasons I keep debating on selling it and going back to a hilleberg. If somebody has a video you get bonus points!!!

Slingfin makes them. They have a video on how to do it.

You’re welcome. I’ve done it my living room. Haven’t taken the skyscraper out yet.
It’s kind of fussy. Definitely not like a true fly 1st pitch tent.

Why thank you good sir. Now to know if anybody has actually done it and succeeded 😂
I’ve done it in the wild. Toughest part is the cross pole if I recall, but it’s been a couple years. You kind of have to get into the doorways. It isn’t impossible but it isn’t like popping poles through external sleeves like on a hilleberg.

To me the advantages of the Slingfin designs outweigh downsides, and they are strong.

I’ve done it, you’ll want to practice at home a few times at home. The fly attaches to the tent body via a toggle through a ring on the web. If you attach the toggle around the web you won’t be able to feed the poles through. You can get the cross pole through but if it was raining good I’d not mess with it bc you have to move the vestibule which could lead to water getting in.

I've been messing around with this as well. I love the skyscraper for a few reasons, and it has held up great for me in snow and high winds, but I miss that true fly first feature of the Hilleberg.

I bought the flat footprint, pitched the webtruss/rainfly clipped to that, and could feed the two poles through and get it set up. Then clipped the inner in - and could either wrap the inner guy points around the stakes or I'm looking at small clips to attach corners of inner to corners of footprint. Footprint is 7oz, but the tent body floor is only 20D, so the added security is nice (compared to 50 or 70d of hilleberg)

The webtruss can be a pain to pitch under the fly, but man is it stable - especially with a trekking pole supporting the vestibules.

I'm thinking of some other options, some sort of cup attached to the webtress clips like a hilleberg, or a lightweight x to help pitch the fly without the footprint.

I was also messing with the fly first setup. I wanted to be able to setup in as few steps as possible. I started by removing the web truss system and using the pole clip kit SG sold. (I say sold bc I dont see it in their web page anymore). I then zip tied the footprint and the tent body together at the corners. I left about .5 - .75” of a loop on the zip tie.

I then clipped the fly to both the small black rings of the tent body and footprint. This is the same place I zip tied. I left the rain fly corn pills loose. I was able to easily slide the tent poles between the rain fly and tent body.

Once the poles are popped up and in their corners I could open the doors and reach in and clip the body to the poles and the rain fly toggles on the poles.

The most difficult part is getting the cross bar between the rain fly and poles. I had slide it through broken apart and then assemble once in place.

After doing it this way I’m going to keep it that way. It setup easily and I think it would limit any water from getting in if raining. Here is a pic of the tent with the web truss delete kit with no rain fly, and what I weighed it at, footprint, body, fly, poles, I have more stakes then I probably need, so I could probably get the weight down into the mid 4#s
