Most of the south Florida comments are for south east Florida,

South west is very different from the Miami area. Yes we get tons of tourists and snowbirds but I don’t mind to much. Now I would never come here for anything but work or family but if you have any interest in fishing it’s not a bad place to be. Hunting is tough but plenty of hogs and small deer and turkeys .

Public land can be tough but no harder than a lot of out west, just got to be willing to get in a ways

I will say it’s expensive living
Pubic land hogs from this year, just a little canoe ride to reach themF21F306F-2372-4E00-9C6A-9933B3CAFB66.jpeg3F0A8019-DE60-49A6-8C63-7E076D9C53E1.jpeg

Nice harvest! I’m
Used to packing in a 2-8 miles for hunts, so that’s not a problem. I’m looking to take a flight out there with my fiancé in September. Into Jacksonville than working out way down most likely to see what the environment is Like. Go for about 6 days to try to see how it is

The problem with most of Florida is that it’s mostly sandy pine flats which are food deserts for deer. You drive through and everything is green but there’s very little nutrition there. It’s deceptive.

What's crazy is how desert mule deer thrive in AZ with 5" of annual rainfall and minimal desert flora.

The scrubby pines in sand drive me crazy in FL. I never found the panhandle hunting that great but it's all relative. Never tried to hunt South FL and never will.

We are also looking into the very southern part if GA so I’m not sure if that opens up a lot more. Sorta looking along that whole coast from SC to Jacksonville now

Coming from SoCal I don’t think you will find southern coastal Georgia very exciting. Go look for yourself though.

I don’t like it here. Only good thing is the weather. Other than that I’m not into much here

I lived in Savannah, GA for several years. Like living on vacation! Tybee Island, Redneck Riviera, and Savannah river has good fishin, along with the many rivers in South Georgia. Decent amount of public lands within a short drive. Hunting on Fort Stewart as well. North Georgia mountains not that far. Trout streams, turkey, deer, hogs, bear. Endless hiking. You can start walking in Georgia and wind up in Maine

Where we leave off into Jacksonville and see how we like it. Only one one to find out right?

Charleston and Savannah are great but not the southern tip of Georgia. From Savannah south to Jacksonville it’s more rural with smaller cities with less economic opportunities.

Yeah that’s sorta going to be my problem, I’ve gotta be relatively close to a big city for my line of work

What is your fiancé wanting in a place to live ?

Warm weather and close to some sort of water. So anywhere we are looking really is like that.... oh and a pool

Well I am down by the "tip" of Florida. Sorta, Miami is the tip south which is Dade County. Moving north is Broward, then Palm Beach. I'm in Palm Beach. It's like a 30 minute drive or so ?

In the tri-county area, you are mainly subjected to Federal Evergaldes lands. Very good hunting by and large and goregeous terrain. Great bass fishing as well.

I drive a bit further north and have a hunting lease. Deer are bigger and boar more plentiful and ground is less marsh swamp.

I bow hunt wild boar year round so there is no need for 3D practice....lol We also have Osceola turkey which is the only area where you get true Osceola and not the Eastern/Osceola hybrids a bit further up north say by Orlando area.

If you make it down, look me up and i'll be more than happy to share a bow hunt with you.

How’s St. John’s or st Augustine’s? It’s close to a major city for work but it seems close enough to get into the woods

Jacksonville doesn’t really stop down through St Augustine. Northern St Johns county is filling in between. Anywhere north of Jacksonville has a lot more winter. St Augustine is really the top of “Florida “ weather. If your fiancé wants warm year round then look at St Augustine south close to the beach.

What do you mean “stop down through” ? And “filling in between”

I mean Jacksonville and St Augustine are growing together. The area of St Johns country between Jacksonville and St Augustine is filling with new neighborhoods and strip malls.

So they are relatively good places to look? Close for me to get outdoors and warm enough for her year round?

Plus being next to a big city means there’s work
