I have a trip coming up in a couple weeks. Any tips, pointers, or local places to eat/check out are appreciated.

We're going down to Islamorada. Staying at Bud'n'Mary's marina for three nights. We have a full day charter booked for one day. Will fish from a bridge or shore the next day. Then head up to Miami to drop off my cousins.

After that, I'll have a few days to kill with my uncle. We have a place to crash near West Palm / Boynton Beach.

Then I'll meet the wife and kids in Orlando and say adios to my uncle as he heads back home.

We'll have two nights in Orlando and we are taking the kids, 8 and 6, to Disney the day after they arrive.

Then we are headed to Daytona / Ormond Beach for five nights.

It looks like a rocket launch is scheduled on our last full day.

Thoughts on watching the launch from Playalinda Beach?

Anyplaces we shouldn't miss?

Tips for DIY fishing in the Keys, Boynton, or Daytona?

I just got back from Big Pine Key at the end of February. Fishing was fantastic right off our back dock. Grunt and Mangrove Snapper in schools of 100-300. We filleted and ate them and caught probably 12 sharks between 36"-70"and one goliath grouper with the carcasses. The best restaurant we ate at down there was called Boondocks. Might be a little too far to drive though.

If you can get over to playinda, thatll be a great place to watch.

The rocket goes up and then the booster comes down to land, so the whole launch thing is about a 15-minute event. Don’t stop watching til the orange fireball lands.

Fishing is fishing. You can probably get some whiting, small blues, maybe pompano, drum, or reds off the beach or pier. 2 hook rig w 1-2/0 size hooks.

You can fish the jetty at the inlet and maybe get a big red or drum if you use 1/2 crab.

The waters within merritt island national wildlife refuge hold a lot of birds, gators, etc. can catch a lot of sea trout throwing a swim bait or topwater. Might get a red, or even gar if fishing inside.

Islamorada has the best food in the keys. Happy Hour at Mora Bay at sunset, good food and location is awesome. Chef Michaels across the street is great spot for fresh seafood.

Fishing: Offshore, a little early in season but a good guide should keep you with tight lines. Good fishing on the bridges.

The Keys are special, Have fun!!!

Yeah, but I kinda suck at fishing and need all the help I can get.
Nothing wrong w that,

It is always easier when you have local knowledge.

Youll love the keys, the fish line up to bite the hook at times. Tell guide you want to catch a baracuda along w whatever else you are fishing for.

I been struggling a bit myself w the around daytona stuff. Just starting to recover from a big fish kill in the lagoon a handful of years back.

Sending a pm

If you have some spare time drive to Big Pine key and check out the tiny deer. Get gas before leaving Miami, all the gas stations in the keys are crap and crowded. I suck at fishing but I’m pretty good at beer drinking on a boat if you need pointers with that.

Islamorada; my favorite place in Florida.
Also, check out Billy Swamp and spend a night in one of
their huts. Beats Disney any day.

You can see Hemingway's place in Key West, and the sister ship to the Pilar in Islamorada. The Turtle Hospital is worth a visit. The minipoons and cuda will be around, and don't sleep on the snapper fishing/eating. If you can do a food tour of Little Havana come hungry. Get a guava and cream cheese pastry if you can find one. If you are adventurous enough, you can try hunting the iguanas and pythons. And its a bit touristy, but I enjoy it, feeding the tarpon at Robbie's is fun.
