Fixed or Mechanical

I have always been a fixed BH guy, but I've shot a couple elk and a deer with fixed heads that just didn't leave much blood on the ground and they were heck trying to track them. All of them died, and all were in good shot locations, just not much blood and sections of no blood. The deer was broadside and the hit was just a little higher than 1/2 way up, but there wasn't a drop at all, all the way to the deer.......about 100 yards. That was with a 125gr Shuttle T.

One elk was quartering away and shot behind the ribs and lodged in the offside shoulder with a 4-blade Wac'em. TOUGH tracking job. The third was broadside with a 125gr Shuttle T and hit right above the leg about 1/3 the way up and there was only one spot where you could see the blood sprayed out both sides, then nothing for the next 150 yards.

So I've been experimenting with mechanicals as well. I did shoot a bull with the 125gr Spitfire and the blood was amazing. So I always carry at least a couple Spitfires now. But also trying out the GR Fatal Steel.

Has anyone used the NAP Killzones? I have read some posts on here of some who liked them and some who did not. Looking at them in the package they seem pretty good.

I haven't taken an animal with the Killzones, but plan to come pronghorn season. I'll most likely shoot my mule deer with one as well. For elk, I'm sticking with my 125 gr slick trick standards.

Not that the Killzone couldn't work, but for that big of an animal, and how well my Slick Tricks are flying I have huge confidence in them. Heck I could shoot the ST's at everything, but I like experimenting.

I shoot the NAP Killzones. I have only shot Whitetail in Iowa with them. This past season I shot a buck that field dressed at #238. One of the blades nicked the lower leg bone, just below the knee. The blade edge just barely curled over and still opened up. I would have had a pass-through, but hit the off side shoulder. That deer was shot at 52 yds. I had a pass through on a doe that hit small rocks and just dulled the blades.

They are easy to tune and sight in. I was able to get sighted in to 60 yds in about an hour. I have not had any issues with them opening in flight or not opening up.

That said I am looking to mess with fixed blades. My concern is what is going to happen if I center punch a larger bone.

I prefer fixed heads. Why ? Sheeeet happens , that's why.

Angled shots with mechanicals have caused intermittent issues of not opening.

Atleast with a fixed head, it will do its job if you do your job.

Nothing worse than you doing your job( well placed arrow) and the head not doing its job.

If you want something a little less costly and comparable to a Solid Legend, look @ Carbon Express XT. 3 heads for $21 on EBay.

Also Wasp Boss 4 blade 100's. 6 pack for around $45.

I use rage chisel tips and have killed deer, elk, and pigs with them. I went with mechanicals because I got tired of having to keep my bow perfectly tuned with fixed blades.
