Fishnet base layers. They work, and you want them.

Reading this brought back memories of the 70's, We wore fishnet long johns snowmobiling back then. I was a kid so I could not tell what they were made of, but they worked well. I will admit we also wore nylons and they worked great. I know here it comes. :sneaky: I was stationed at Mcmurdo, all the Navy had was cotton, very little poly. we froze our butts off on some days. Korean war vintage gear.

You guys were issued cotton at McMurdo? What era was this?

Any fishnet briefs? Asking for a friend

I was an undergrad student at the University of Minnesota in the early 70s. My buddies and I were happily camping at temperatures that kept the poorly equipped at home or in the ER for amputations. Every time I saw a Navy ROTC cadet on campus with bright red ears under those ridiculous brimmed hats they had to wear even in January, I was angry at the lack of common sense in the logistics chain. Things have improved greatly since then.

The gear has changed but the lack of common sense has not! It wasn't long ago that we were all issued some pretty darn good cold/wet weather gear but then not allowed to wear it - even though it was on the packing list and we had to carry it around in our rucks for the entire field problem/exercise - because some Sgt Major said so. The odds that the same SM who made that decision also had to live in those conditions were nearly zero every time but what do I know - I was basically terminal at E4.

I just picked up the Brynje wool set. They fit well. Made for the tall and skinny, not the stocky. Can’t tell you much about the benefit yet, since it was 88° today. That’ll wait until this fall.
