After freediving while spearing almost every day for 3 months I could hit 75’. I told an older guy about how deep we were diving and he bet me a case of beer I couldn’t bring up sand from 75’. Free beer! Poco, it was the late 80’s and we never had any serious issues with sharks, I wonder if there are more sharks these days? Yup, Hogfish are the best.
With a wintery snow mix falling winters sailing sounds good to me

I wish my Wife would live on a sailboat. I retired 4 years ago and got to help a friend sail from Fiji to Australia on a 35’ sloop, it was a great experience of about 1600 miles. 883FC725-B2D6-4745-A78A-8173D7686D33.jpeg

We had our first boy on our boat for the first 1.5 years. Once we found out about #2, plans changed and we sold. Hopeful to get a catamaran within 5 years and move back on it full time. Sailing and spearfishing are a great way to live.

A 3lb bonefish on a fly or spinning gear is similar to a 30lb plus king salmon but harder to land. Super fun.

Doesn’t bonefishing require a guide now in the Bahamas, as in it’s illegal to DIY bonefish?
Hopefully if I understand the new reg that blatant money grab only applies from a boat, and you can still wade fish or sup fish flats without guide. I prefer wading and used to park my flats boat on edge of flat in Biscayne bay and use snow shoes to walk flat. In an average day I would see 400-500 bones and we caught huge bones there, double the size you see in Bahamas and then the algae bloom in the bay killed it. It wasn’t over fishing or boat traffic but green lawns. Fertilizer runoff is killing our fresh and coastal waters. Biscayne bay used to be a great fishery, not anymore
