I'm considering using a zipper instead of Velcro. What are the cons other than weight? Should I use a water proof zipper? If so does anyone know any good sources?

I actually have thought about modifying mine so that it was sewn solid at the back (and seam sealed) then sewing in a small vent at the top where I have the velcro seam actually reinforced right now. Could sew in a small spacer to hold it open like my BA CSUL2 is now.
