New resident to Oregon, and have also never hunted a turkey. Thinking about getting the Sports pak which includes a tag for the spring bird, and seeking some advice

First question is about hunting them on my own property. We live on a private road and everyone has several acres of land, over 12 personally and mostly wooded on a steep hillside. We have some resident turkeys that have been roaming around our "neighborhood" since we moved here in September, they roost directly across the street from our house and routinely pass through our yard. What is the consensus on taking one from the crop? Sure would make filling that tag easier, but I also have a twinge of reservation about the idea from an ethical standpoint, but also being new to the neighborhood I don't want to be "that guy". Also a little unsure of the legality of shooting in this area, and how to research if it is permitted.

Secondly, and as a piggyback - if not hunting here, how do I locate and hunt these birds on public land? Where to scout, what to look for, patterns, etc.

Lots of questions! You own that land, you are free to do what you want on it to an extent. If you are not inside city limits and shooting in a direction that’s safe, I say go for it.
Call the sheriffs office, give them your address and ask if there is any ordinance about safely using a firearm in your locale.
My take on neighborhood turkeys and neighborhoods in general. More people despise turkeys than appreciate them around.

Look at your neighbors, see who is driving a lifted/leveled truck. Maybe a guy has a RMEF sticker on back glass or something similar.

Knock on his door and introduce yourself. That introduction will lead into the conversation of “anyone whacking turkeys here?”
