Ok guys so i currently have the llano top as my base and the Labrador heavier top layer. As far as choosing the mid layer FL has the chama and the chama EXP. Question is, is either one of those choices closer to being the actual mid weight between the llano and labrador? i understand the EXP is the heavier of the two but i have been hung up on this decision. HELP!!!

I had the same question. : ) I have a Llano and the the Springer vest. Got a Chama Hoody on the way. I'll let you know as soon as mine arrives, but if you want an immediate answer I'd call FL.

I do not have a springer vest or a labrador jacket so I cannot comment on how heavy those are. However I have the llano and the chama qz, and it is hard for me personally to feel much of a weight difference between the two. I do not have the EXP so I don't know how heavy that is. I feel that the llano and regular chama are very close in weight with the chama obviously weighing a bit more. The main difference to me is that the chama is not as athletic cut and fits a bit looser. Just my personal experience. Love the llano and chama combo though for hunting here in AZ.

My system is a Llano next to the skin with the Chama Hoody or 3/4 zip for the mid layer. The Labrador is the heaviest of all FL Merino layers, the Chama's are right in the middle basically, with the EXP being just a bit heavier than the regular chama.

If it were me, I'd get the Chama Hoody and wear that over the Llano when needed...

I use my Labrador as a mid layer, but have never used it hunting.......it is heavy. I prefer fleece as a mid layer for hunting. I would never use the Llano, Chama, and Labrador together.

I usually use a lightweight merino short sleeve t-shirt as a base layer and then run the Chama Hoody over that. If I need anymore than that I'm putting on the puffy jacket, but those two merino layers while hiking is generally more than warm enough even into the teens if I'm hiking and if the wind is blowing I'll put my rain jacket on as well.

I received my Chama Hoody last night. It is definitely thicker than my Llano tops. No field experience with it, but it fees like a pretty decent middle layer between the Springer / Labrador weight. Like Luke I like a lightweight merino T as my base with something like the Llano over it. My favorite Merino Ts are the KUIU ones. These ones: http://store.kuiu.com/kuiu-merino-t-shirt-p/20010.htm?1=1&CartID=0
Super thin...

I really like the feel of the Chama. Look forward to getting out in it. ;)

How is the durability on those KUIU merino tees? Pretty decent pricing for a merino T.. Are they itchy compared to other brands such as FL?

The durability is fine, haven't had any major issues with the one I have although it's cut smaller then my other merino from Kuiu at the same size. If I were to do it again I'd go up a size. I personally don't find them to be itchy but they are not as soft as FL.

They are thin and breathable, yet surprisingly durable. Probably would not hold up to well as an outer layer for busting brush and rock crawling, but I wear them beneath layers and they are perfect for that purpose. I have had mine since last fall sometime and so far they are like new. I even wear them to work as an under layer, especially in the winter months. I always wash my wool in the Nikwax Wool Wash, for whatever that is worth.

KUIU claims they have a slight itch, but I have not noticed one. They fit like a muscle T. If you want them loose order up a size or two. IMO, they are a perfect weight for layering under a Llano.
