a couple of years ago i was hunting on a 2 acre property in the middle of a neighborhood that is absolutely overrun with deer. you can watch them hang out in peoples front yards bedded under ornamental trees and they'll get up and move while the guy mows his yard then come right back in when he's done. the deer are completely habituated to human interaction. the homeowner recognizes the issues and asked us to take some of them out. i'm sitting in a treestand on the corner of his property and i see deer start to congregate in the neighbors front yard about 100 yards uphill from me. probably 10 deer standing in one spot like they're waiting on something. sure enough the neighbor walks out of his garage with a 5 gallon bucket and starts hand feeding these does. i just climbed out of my stand, called the game warden, and haven't been back after realizing i'm basically targeting baited deer. its hard to explain to people that baiting deer is illegal when you walk into walmart and there are giant bags of "deer corn" on pallets in the hunting section.
