FFP Hunters: How's It Going in the Woods?

This will be my first season hunting with a FFP scope (Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18X44). My hunting is a blend of sitting over large cut crop fields and some stand hunting in the woods.

I plan on keeping my scope on 5x and using the illuminated reticle in low light in the woods.

Anyone have regrets going to a FFP for a hunting scope?

Nope, not at all. I live in the Southeast. I use mine (NF NX8 2.5-20x50 FFP) in thick woods, open fields, small food plots, large food plots, and out West. No issues or regrets for me.

Nope. In fact I have a few rifles with SFP scopes, and I’m itching to replace them with FFP. The only real issue may be if you have a reticle so fine at low power that you can’t see it against a brushy background. If you can mitigate that issue with illumination, you’re generally good.

I use a fixed 10x SWFA. My favorite for everything.

I recently picked up my first FFP and, though I haven't hunted with it yet, I like it so far.

Nope, shot my buck this year when he popped up at about 80 yards with my Mark5 on 6x.

No regrets. Mine all work well, spot/stalk, jumping deer, etc. I leave them on 4-6x for walking around.

FFP or fixed for me, period-once I switched to FFP years and years ago, I never want to be bit by subtensions being off for any reason.

I've hunted a fair bit with FFP in the east coast woods. I know where my crosshairs are, I don't need treetrunks for crosshairs.

I just can’t dig my FFPs for timber stalking. Out west here it’s generally open and either works fine but if I know I’m going to be timber pounding I reach for a SFP.

No regrets for me. In low light it’s a glorified ‘duplex’ reticle. At extended ranges it’s great

I've been using the Mk5 3.6-18 for my hunting rifles for 3 years. I absolutely love it, and have no need to go back to SFP

FFP only for hunting brushy western OR and open eastern OR for me...

Taking a shot at a critter is complicated enough without having to remember to be on the right magnification setting.

Back to SFP for me. Works best for me.
Subtensions aren’t a problem for me.
I also like a reticle I can see & use at any
Power setting, that’s most important for me.

Only use FFP for all shooting. It’s a good Idea to use the same tools you practice with when pulling the trigger matters.
