If the location of the chest was disclosed, I would expect at least a handful of people to somehow challenge lawful possession based on that location.
"It was next to the trail we have maintained for X years"
"I found it and was coming back to get it with help"
Whacky stuff.

I would also expect some sort of goverent hassle. Either from taxes, or the county claiming it was abandoned and their property, or wanting reimbursed for search and rescue costs reimbursed.

Lastly, it wouldn't surprise me if family of those who does searching filed some sort of hail mary shot.

I would stay anonymous, and I wouldn't disclose the location.
