Felt recoil 7-08 vs. 6.5 CM

140gr bullet at about the same velocity is about the same recoil and out of the same weight rifle will have same felt recoil. Felt recoil will have more subjective data. They’re about the same to me but my custom rifle that fits me a bit better and better stock design feels less.

Depending on what your hunting and purpose is, consider a 223 or similar for the 11yo. I started with a 243. Same with my son when he was 10.

Felt recoil matters, sometimes more than calculated free recoil. Stock design and proper fitting (or testing and evaluation) goes a loooooooooong way for each person.

For me, I’ve found the Manners SL stock fits me best and felt recoil diminishes. The Kimber Montana stock runs a close second. Trying the Manners EH-2 on a new rifle this summer.
