That will be a nice, light weight set up. I'm currently running the Argali, Mountain Warrior and Reckoning to see which I like best. I've run the MW since it came out, but like one of the posters above would prefer my rifle be strapped to the front of the pack vs. the side. Time will tell.

That Tahr setup will be very versatile and my guess is that you will have it sooner than you think and in time for the hunt.

I am hoping so too, I also ordered the 26" duplex, and I believe they make those per order, so hopefully they arrive together.
Thx for all your help gents'

Now I'm looking for a bikini frame in a 24" , and an ultra light weight set up to play with.
I have a new guy, never hunted before, who wants to hunt so I will get it set up for him by next year. I took his dad out last 2 years and he harvested so now the son is amped up about mountain hunting, the dad dropped out of the mountain idea (he is physically hurt in his back).
I am hoping they eventually hook up together and develop that part of their relationship. Both great guys and love the outdoors.

i only have a small amount of experience with the EMR II (or kifaru for that matter) but i really like it. i like bags that can compress down. ill drop camp and happily carry the pack on me slimmed down in day pack mode. Its a little heavier than what i did have, but the duplex is so much better than what ive used in the past that i dont mind it at all. this year i covered 16 miles one day, and im in BFE where there is no cell service and forcasts are pointless. i carry enough to be prepared when im 8 miles from camp for that random sleet that comes creeping in like i dealt with this year.

you're my hero, 16 miles, that's getting it done.
Id carry everything as well going that far, incl a sat phone, water filter, tarp, and blanket lol

For me 5 -7 is it. My elev only changes from 10,000 up to 11500 mostly, where I stumble thru.

Kudos to you mountain warriors who go the long haul.

If your quarter bags are LW synthetic like tag bags, you could easily do that load with a guide lid on your frame. You could add a grab-it and lash kit for hauling quarters. You could run your bladder in the strap pocket of the guide lid. I did some day hunts that way this season and really liked it.

I am really liking this idea. I have added in my cart a guide lid and a couple pouches. This will be a great set up for me. Any way to mount the bladder to the frame? I'm thinking of some sort of flat pouch to buckle and house the bladder, then run the guide lid in quick detach mode, as well as some other pouches strapped in and even 2 belt pouches. Should be all I need

Dotman,
I'm after a day pack not a long trip
:)
I don't need all the extra bag of the bigger ones.
I only need the 1500 ci size, but understand I can get bigger and compress. Just don't want all the excess.
Apollo bag. It has a load shelf built in. I just ordered one. Around 1700ci.

I went with the Tahr simply cause guys with more experience than I with Kifaru packs said these bigger packs compress great, yet expand to big loads too. I thought I need to listen to this and the Tahr was in the Rhino den for a low low price, and just seemed to be what I could use, and had the ability to compress/enlarge as per what the others mentioned.

Tons of good info on here, sometimes you gotta weed thru the negative Nancys but you will know what works for you.

we had extra motivation that day. we started the day hiking out to set up a camp and had 6 sparring bulls coming up the hill 100 yards from us, we were perfectly downwind and they had no clue we were there. we set up and within 10 minutes me and my buddy were about to take shots, im talking seconds away, at sparring bulls when i hear a cow call come from the trees about 100 yards in front of us. i looked at my friend and said "****" and sure as shit all 6 of the bulls raised their heads and bolted. a guy we had met the day before, saw along the trail that morning, had come running up the hillside when he saw the bulls. he made a real selfish move to be directly upwind, and he could see us directly in front of him.

so we busted ass that day looking for the elk in the area. never saw another animal all season, but my friend did get altitude sickness. if you hike 16 miles make sure to drink more than half a nalgene! he learned his lesson! wheres the facepalm emoji?

I have to say public lands brings out the worst in many. I hunt in Utah (Resident) and many from Vegas and cali come there, spend $1000 and take a week of work off, and are desperate for a story to tell back home. I get that, so I set up to utilize these guys and not get abused by them. But it doesn't always work that way.

I hunt at 11,000 on average and sometimes higher. I drink tons of water from the beginning of getting into camp to when I leave as well as eat small amounts regularly instead of one big meal, and I can NOT eat 2 hrs before sleeping time or my body has a hard time getting full breaths.
I try to eat a good 4 hrs prior to bed time. Altitude is tough, but adjustments made make it doable with minimal discomforts.

When I see hunters, instead of ruing their hunt, I try to back out and figure what they will cause in the elks patterns. I know my area very well. Have 3 Bulls on camera and eyes on them 3 times in 3 years,. When I hear bugling, I laugh cause I know them. I know which one is the boss and the other two fighting for rank.

I may try an over nighter one time and be in the middle of them rather than trying to sneak in under early morning darkness.
I will have the right pack for it and have been looking at the camp stoves. Like the Reactor. Glad I listened to the guys here and got the bigger pack.
