I hunt them here in MN....they are dumb and die easy. The only thing that really makes them difficult is when the leaves are on early in the season. The best part of Grouse hunting is when the Woodcock migration is coming through. Then you aren’t hunting them in the Great Lakes states.
We must have hunted very different parts of MN. I thought the grouse were very sporting last fall when we hunted MN.For me it is hands down Snow Geese in the spring (or fall I guess). Having giant wads of geese flip floppin into a spread is the best. Also, I love a good 30mph blizzardy pass shoot on snows when they have their bellies on the ground.
Also, you get to shoot more. Duck hunting is cool for 30minutes until you fill out. 20 snows in the fall and unlimited in the spring...count me in.

We had a blast trying this on my son's deer hunt this year. We will definitely try it out again this next season. We are here in Minden too.Chukar

absolutely not road hunting or walking trails. We hunt over pointers on swamp edges/poplar stands. We must have hunted very different parts of MN. I thought the grouse were very sporting last fall when we hunted MN.
You’re not road hunting are you?
As a fellow Iowegean it would be hard for me to say any bird other than a turkey because I love hunting them so much! But something that is a little different that I love hunting every year is Iowas population of bobwhite quail. They are extremely fast fliers and really test ones shotgun skill and with the perfect prairie camouflage they test the nose of your dog as well!Reading the trophy bird thread has made me think about what birds are special to different folks. It seems there is some regional preference for different species of birds. Like guys on the west coast prefer widgeon or guys down in Mississippi like their greenheads.
What’s your favorite bird to hunt and where are you from?
To start with, I’m from Iowa and my favorite hunts are pintail in a recently harvested field.
You must be from southwest Iowa. I haven’t seen a wild bobwhite since I lived down there. As a fellow Iowegean it would be hard for me to say any bird other than a turkey because I love hunting them so much!
