Fatal mountain lion attack Colorado

I'm not sure I'd agree with that. If one does get successfully killed by a mountain lion, its almost certainly over in a matter of seconds from the time the attack is initiated. If given a choice, I'd take death by mtn lion over quite a few other options.

Re-read the post, now I’m looking for clarification. You said “successfully killed,” can someone get “unsuccessfully killed?”

I welcome jokes over my death, however I go.
My funeral will have posters saying to make comments about my death as my final wish. But do it outside of it, or online from strangers is distasteful.

Also shows a disconnect folks have with one another, especially with the ending of ones life.

(This is nit war, so dont use the excuse of war in to making jokes of one's death as a sign of grief when were not in war, the person wasnt killed from war, or has ptsd.)

Most mtn lion attacks on humans aren't successful in terms of the intended outcome. So, on that front, you have an attack and you have a "successful" attack. Reportedly, cats don't like a fight so, if they don't land deliver a lethal attack on the first attempt and there is resistance, they tend to give up. So I've read, at least. I was using the term "successful" in relation to the outcome of actually being killed. Attacks are more common than "successful" attacks/kills. From what I'm reading, 15% of mtn lion attacks on humans are successful.

Terrible tragedy for sure, and as someone who has two daughters that hike around in CO a lot, sometimes with a dog, sometimes not, I think it’s a good time to let them know they should be carrying bear spray or a pistol and know how to use them. We don’t know how she went, but many cats seem to follow people, you see it a lot, different from how they attack ungulates and in a case like that, bear spray or a pistol could really change the outcome.

Remember this? Terrifying, and spray or a pistol could have ended this quickly

I will say it’s a bummer that the lady died. But I also think back to last year when democrats were trying to ban Mtn lion hunting here in Colorado . Things like this are very rare but when they occur I think it helps to solidify the idea that we need hunting and management of these large predators.
one would hope, but go read the comments on any news organizatons fb post of the incident and you'll think differently. People are upset that they killed two lions because of the incident.

Yea isn’t that wild. People are insane. If these idiots only knew how many lions CPW killed on a weekly basis in Colorado because of conflicts they would loose their minds

It's truly mindblowing to read some of the comments. Same with the Florida bear hunt, not sure why fb shows me so many articles of it. People were up in arms over that.

You're probably correct that I haven't spent much time in the woods. BUT, would it change your perspective at all if I told you I survived a Tiger shark attack?
That’s terrifying… freaking ocean attacks terrify me

It’s a very informative non-fiction account of a mountain lion attack near Boulder, CO involving a high school cross country runner practicing solo. Includes a lot of info on how habituation and learning occurs.

If a lion has been studying people and has become used to them to the point of seeing and stalking them as prey, in my opinion a gun or spray is useless.

I’ve personally watched three lion stalks and attack on Coues deer in AZ. One buck and one doe that were clean misses, which the lion gave up pretty quick in both cases. One doe was a solid successful attack and she didn’t stand a chance. It’s a close quarter blindingly fast pounce from a concealed position.

A successful attack is something you can’t unsee or unhear. The lion and the deer were both VERY vocal during the 3-5 second it took. All three were between 500 and 800 yards away watching through 15x56 binos on a tripod.
