Went out and shot my tikka today and the hornady ammo was only getting 2500 fps. 21.5" barrel. 200 fps off what the box says . the factory barnes ammo was only 80 fps slower. anyone else see this with hornady ammo?

I thought I had read that somewhere. Was it just slow out of the tikkas?

I’d like to find some factory ammo that agrees with my tikka. Anybody know what’s going to happen with the Nosler 140g accubond? Is it being replaced with the 142 long range?

Everyone on the Internet, besides you, is getting at least 4000 fps with 350 gr super high BC elephant slayer bullets out of their 16" barreled 6.5 CM'S with zero recoil and -.6" groups.
Really though, it's a compact case burning 40-45 gr of powder propelling, in this case, a 143 gr bullet out of a short barrel. I'd say mid 2500's is what I would expect. Most reloading manuals and factory stats are from a 24" barrel. It'll still kill a deer just fine.

I would expect 50-100 FPS. Which is what I get from the Barnes lrx. I just thought 200 fps was a large difference.

I just seen some Federal Premium at Sportsmans warehouse loaded with 140 AB's. The Accubond isn't going anywhere, too good of a bullet and following to stop producing.

What are your groups like? As others have told me, " I would rather have an accurate gun that a fast one." It you want to speed it up a little you will have to reload.

I have the same issue with a 300 WM. With factory ammo I have a 30-06.

I'd disagree on the velocity assumption. Out of a new barrel, my 22" CM was seeing a median of 2,632 fps (based on 20 rounds) with factory ELD-X, and was checked by mid-range drops. Now that the barrel is broken-in, I wouldn't be surprised to see mid or upper 2,600's. The OP my have a slow barrel or may have bad data. There's not enough information given to know.
Very true, and I agree with you. There's too many variables with measuring velocity to be sure. Some friends of mine have 6.5 CM'S in Tikka rifles that are generally in the mid 2500's with the same ammo as the OP. Maybe lots of Tikka's have slow barrels, I don't know. Never been a Tikka fanboy. My son's Bergara 6.5 shoots 143 ELD-X just under 2700, but those are handloads, so not an apples to apples comparison. Point I was trying to make, is that the CM is not going to produce blistering velocities. It's a match rifle caliber that hunters happen to love, and it's very effective in most situations regardless of velocity.

Went out and shot the rest of my factory ammo last night. the barnes lrx was 2800fps and the eldx was 2550. About 50 fps faster on both rounds. this puts me at 60 rounds with this rifle.

Any pressure signs with the Barnes at 2800?
And that eldx load seems pretty slow compared to what I’ve seen from my rifle and several others.

The bolt may have been a little sticky. No signs on brass.

And it replaces the outdated and ineffective 270 Win.....

Not.
