Exo Experience Challenge

I'm in for both.
I did 500 step ups with 30lbs the other day.
1000 with 45 is going to be legit.
I’m in for both and yes it will be.
Maybe not for young bucks.
I’m pretty fit but don’t do them ever.
Before the challenge a few weeks I hammered out about 400 with no weight on a box that was to tall.
About three days later I called the doc and said I found a lump in my sack.
No kidding I was freaked out a bit.
It was a varicocele.A swollen vessel.
It’s good now but go easy at first!
22 mi so far with weighted pack.

I went to the ER about a month ago for this.

No fun

Getting old sucks.

I'm definitely growing to dislike Strava. Yesterday on an all day turkey hunt it killed my phone battery. Halfway through the day/hike I paused my track, but didn't end it. Phone died, no hike shown. At least I tracked the second half with my InReach. That's probably just a lack of understanding on my part but it's still annoying.

I really don't need all of the gamified stuff on it. Literally just want to know how far I went, elevation gain/loss, and time.

Do folks really use a gear list? Completed the 50 miles this past weekend and now just realizing how big of an annoyance this gear list is going to be lol. Going to go through and weigh every little thing I use, just to never use this list again so I can complete this challenge.

I do, but that’s mostly because I got that flavor of autism where I really enjoy this sort of thing lol

I don't mind using their list to compare what they might pack to what I have and see what differences there are or things they list that I haven't thought about. I wasnt going to worry about weights of stuff. That isn't mandatory right?

I don’t think we have to submit the gear list. Just the assessment questions. I am however using their list as a baseline to create my own list that is more than just hunting.

Idk I thought it was required because of this but I haven’t submitted yet since I didn’t have that done lol.

Don’t need to use their gear list format or weights, just need a gear list, can be handwritten, iPhone notes, etc etc etc

I do. Started it up a couple years ago when I was switching from base camp to camp on my back type of hunts and really trying to cut overall weight. I did end up finding it helpful to suss out what can be left behind and what would actually be worth money to upgrade or change.

After doing my gear list, i feel as if i either put more stuff in my pack then i realize, or cant think of everything that i bring. When I start backpacking this spring i need to focus on my junk and write everything out.

I could be wrong but I feel the gear list is an absolute necessity for long backcountry trips. But maybe I just like to be comfortable and have all my things.. I will admit for this months challenge I was lucky with a family hiking trip already planned and an evolving gear list I started with inspiration from Marks posted list a few years back.

Challenge has been fun so far. Plan to do my 24/24 this weekend!

I failed to get my miles in for April so I'm out. Oh well, I'll keep pushing and following along either way. Good luck to those that are still in.

How did your 24 go? I’m aiming for the stars for mine. Waiting until snow melts to do a big ridge hike, prly early July. Have an alternate flat hike to do in the likely case the ridge is not feasible.

What are folks getting for their step up paces? My little clickers haven’t come yet but I think I was doing 1 step up every 4 seconds. Just did it timed tonight and will use time to guesstimate my progress until clickers come later this week.

It went pretty good considering. Around mile 20 my feet started to hurt. Then mile 24ish my right knee and hip started giving me grief. Last mile I basically limped in.

I wore the wrong shoes.. my Alta timps are basically shot so I wore my old road running shoes brooks ghosts. Heat rashed my feet and smashed my pinky toes in. Never again for narrow toe box. I also ran short on water. Could have purified water however I was in a hurry. All in all it was a good experience pushing my limits. In hindsight a few minor things would have made a fair difference. I will do better next time!

I’ve done the CrossFit workout “Chad” (1,000 step ups w/ 45# on a 20” box) several times and I average around 70 minutes +/- 90”.

The other day I did a workout and then did 150 steps ups @55# and 20” in just over 15 minutes.

This morning I did 418 step ups in 30 mins. I was fiddle f with a tv remote for part of it.. maybe 425-450 per 30 mins for me would be a better number. Also afternoon workouts for me seem to have more energy. I am sure if I was more awake ~500+ per 30 mins. Will find this all out soon I guess. Interesting to hear what other people are doing for times and numbers.

I did 500 in 30 minutes a month or so ago. That was on a 21” box with a 55# pack. I’m going to be doing 16” for the challenge portion, so I’m thinking 1k per hour shouldn’t be a problem.
