Evolution outdoors Hyde- 100gr aluminum hesitations

Ok boys, that didnt go as expected at all.

I shot the aluminum version into a 6x6. The broadhead survived but the victory 60 grain stainless insert did not, nor did my arrow.

Blades bent slightly, but upon removal of the blades the ferrule still spun true.

Decided to swap insert componentry this year and went to a 50 grain stainless half out from easton and got a wild hair to try the same thing again with another head. This time the broadhead survived, the arrow survived and shockingly after a hell of a time getting the head out of the wood, it seemed to be in as good or better shape than the first one. I think I can say that my hesitation has been squashed for now.

The top pic is the head prior to the shot, second pic is the broken arrow after the shot with the head still looking good.

Third pic is 2nd arrow and head after the shot. I guess I'm sold

I’m a little late to the party, but I’ve been using Hydes for a couple years now. I’ve shot elk, bear, antelope etc. The expandable blades usually have some chips after they go through an animal. Some times they’re bent depending on what they contact or what they hit after they exit. I’ve never had one break. I’ve had one fixed blade tip slightly curl. I believe this was due to hitting a rock once it exited. All in all, I’m pleased with their performance on game and their fight. As far as durability goes, I’ve never had a ferrule bend. I just got done putting an edge back on a couple of Hydes I used to take an antelope. The expandable blades weren’t bent, but they were chipped, so I replaced them. I’ve come to accept the fact nearly every expandable is going to need repairs or replacement depending on the broadhead. Sevr heads are probably the most “durable” expandables I have used. They are also the most forgiving in flight broadheads I’ve used. I have also lost more animals with those heads than any other head I’ve used..so have my friends. I sold over a dozen Sevr’s of different sizes and got away from them. I’ve been intrigued by their new hybrids, but I’ve been stung one too many times to go back..I’m jaded lol The thing I don’t like about the Hydes are their price, but anymore almost all heads are expensive. At least the Hydes are made in America. I also don’t like having to replace the little plastic rod every time the blades are deployed, but that’s part of the system that makes it effective. Every animal I’ve shot with the Hydes have suffered massive internal damage. They’re dependable, forgiving in flight, and fly with my field points. I can’t ask for much more.
