Why would many top tech execs limit their kids exposure to the internet?

They know kids are being brainwashed- they are on the front lines and see it- in fact many of their business models are based on it. (If anyone knows the name of that excellent documentary on this, please post)

But anyone here shooting the messenger or questioning Jocko’s legitimacy should watch his TED talk above first…good dude.

It is why our nation is becoming more and more polarized. The brain washers are doing a great job if people think only the “other side” is affected.
My in laws live in Chicago with a 16yo and a 12yo. Both their kids have cell phones and both of them, in fact their parents as well, do nothing but sit in their condo looking at their phones all day. All of them are liberal including their kids. When i was 12 and 16 i didnt spend more than a couple hours a week watching tv, internet didnt exist, cell phones didnt exist, etc and i had ZERO political affiliation cause i wasnt exposed to it. I formed my political affiliation as an adult based on life experiences not social media influence.

There is no doubt liberalism is on the rise and its spreading outward from urban areas spurned on by urbanites, and now suburbanites, who allow their kids to stare at social media all day with zero supervision. These kids are literally being brainwashed by what they see on tik tok all day.

Man, I remember getting trouble for not coming in the house when mom or dad yelled for us. We played “army, cowboys and indians“. Spent our money at the junk store as they called it on surplus military gear for our battles. Shot each other with bb guns, carried pocket knives. TV was Saturday morning cartoons. There was no racism in our neighborhood. Black kids and white all played the same games, sports, toys, ate dinner at each others homes.
Only brainwash going on was the neighbor girls “teasing” us boys.:D

Living in Silicon Valley, most parents I know are very aware of and concerned about the extent of their children's screen time but little of what I have heard discussed is related to this topic of this thread. The reasons I have heard related screen addiction (dopamine response), decrease in language/social skills, decreased outdoor/physical/creative activity, reducing exposure to the potential ills of social media (bullying, catfishing), and the possible negative impact on sleep patterns.

Do you think there are no kids of conservative parents who do the same?

It isn’t just social media, our school system is heavily pushing our kids towards liberalism in many areas of the country.

I understand my post reads to be pretty negative on him but I like Jocko. Not a fanboy, never bought a product of his beyond an audiobook, but i definitely enjoy listening to what he has to say and that he's making products in the US.

Try a pair of the jeans.. I bought 2 pairs since I need 2 pairs and will buy more when these wear out

Sure, not as many as liberal urbanite parents though which is why there are an increasing number of liberal voters. They are like a cancer expanding ever outward from their urban liberal hives.

The conservative kids are probably taller, have higher IQ's and straighter teeth too.
About the most random unrelated comment ever?

Let me guess, you’re liberal and you’re offended? Sheesh man, if you want to present an argument on why urban areas are not in fact liberal breeding grounds by all means fire away id love to hear it.

No, I think you are brainwashed and projecting. All the bad things are associated with "them" but not "us".

A guy that pals around with a bunch of do nothing influencers and let’s others uses his name to sell products; I’ll pass

Wow, OK….you know nothing about him but still felt the need to pass judgement?

Lots of politics being interjected here…..and that is tangential to the message.
Its not just politics….its everything.

The Brainwashing happens on all ends of every subject these days. Being a critical thinker and interjecting opposing views and common sense is more crucial than ever.

The promise of the internet was to make the facts more available. It has but along with that is a massive amount of garbage to sort through….

Not sure what you’re driving at? Are you saying i’m brainwashed because i disagree with just about anything a Liberal would be in favor of?

You read in my earlier comment that i grew up before social media, phones, internet, etc right? I pretty clearly stated i formulated my beliefs based on life experiences as an adult not social media use as a youth. I was playing outside as a 12yo. In fact, i don’t have a FB, IG, Snapchat, Twitter, or Tik Tok account now and i still watch only an hour, maybe two of tv a week as i did growing up.

So would you care to elaborate how you came to the conclusion i’m brainwashed and projecting?

Btw, “them” i’ll take as you referring to Liberals and yes, there is nothing good about what they believe in. I sure didn’t need social media to brainwash me to coming to that conclusion.

I still think you’re just a perpetually offended Liberal. You should just be a man and own it if you believe in liberal ideology.

Man this thread is all over the place.

Let's try to keep your personal politics out of it and focus on the core of his message.

Regarding the Jocko guy… lots of respect from me for taking chances and the risks needed to start a company making yet another line of hunting clothing but I gotta say that camo pattern is a hidious mistake, imo. Along with those wearing Under Armor camo, the Origin guys will be the only vertical being in the wild with horizontal striping. And a dark blob of horizontal striping at that. I can’t help but wonder if it’s just a fashion camo instead of a real attempt to deceive animal eyes.

Without going totally off the rails; think whatever you want about Jocko and his online persona. I don't trust or believe anyone that I don't know personally. His message conveys here because "we" are his audience. No different than liberals indulging Bernie Sanders or the like.
