I use oxyclean and a little dawn in the simmer. No boil just slow simmer for 4-6 hours. I do this in a pot on the grill.

Then use a power washer.

I mix some baking soda with the peroxide into a paste and then paint it on and let it sit on it for about 24 hours.

These two steps seem to degrease and whiten perfectly.
Yeah thats real close to what i do. There are some die hard skull guys that insist the only proper way is macerating, which in turns results in long degreasing process and often times gluing back bones and teeth. No doubt it does a phenomenal job that way but 99% of people looking at getting a euro mount cant tell the difference.
The best looking skulls ive seen are done this way but its not a process im willing to do.

My process is….
Skin and remove eyes, brain, and as much meat as possible.
If i have several to do i will then put them in a bucket of water until all are skinned and cleaned. Probably let them break down a few days in the water.
Slow simmer at 150-160 degrees for few hours with dawn and tiny bit of oxy.
Powerwash.
In my personal ones i remove nasal bones and ears buds then power wash again.
If its old deer or greasy animal (bear or hog) ill soak in heated bucket 110degrees with dawn and amonia for few weeks changing water until no more grease rises to the top.
If not greasy then ill put in baquacil for few hours.
Rinse
Dry

150-200 is the going rate for deer.

I was looking for someone to do my coues and the hardest part for me, more than price, was to get someone to actually respond back. Only dude out of 3 or 4 that I reached out was a dude that doesnt do a ton so hopefully it turns out well. Called and texted each of them. One texted me back and I asked for his address to drop it off and that was the end of that.

Is the taxidermist shipping them?

Beetles don't seem like an obvious way to take advantage of nonresidents coming through.
Not including shipping costs. That's price of the two taxis local to me. And yeah, beetle turnaround is not quick. CoL is much higher here but prices are almost 2x Front Range.

@cnelk's buddy does a great job.

It's well worth $200 to me for my mount to be done right and I don't have to dispose of head tissue in my yard.

My buddy also does domestic pets, reptiles and exotic animals.

Hell, one time a person asked if he would do a leg that the person had amputated.
He passed on that one. ;)

This is the way. Followed by 48 hours in the cheap peroxide, then 48 hours covered in 40v peroxide with a bit of whitening powder. And rinse again. YMMV

If ya havnt ever tried the baquacil ozidizer, give it a go. Its 27% peroxide. I put skull in small plastic shoe tote and fill it up with ozidizer just below antler bases. Then put a paper towel over exposed top of skull and wet it with a turkey baster. It gets then whiter than anything ive used. I quit using the volume 40 after i found this. Im not sure how many one gallon will do but its more than ive ever done in a year so at least a dozen.

Local guy does beetles and whitens for $175 for a deer I think. It was 150 and I know he recently raised price, it was in that neighborhood. I paid similar for an antelope in WY in 2022. Both cases I thought they did an exceptional job, ie ALL tiny bones intact, 110% of tissue gone, evenly whitened, zero odor, no yellowing since, etc.
Went to a taxidermist to have some turkey wing bones cleaned by beetles. They did a good job, but because of the heat needed to keep the beetles active, the bones stunk of decay!
Since I was using them to make calls, I had to boil the bones to get rid of the odor.

I killed a pretty nice buck in 2018. A buddy offered me the use of his "Buck Bucket".
Took 3 days to cook and about $5 worth of quarters at the car wash to clean after cooking!

Skin out the skull. Remove tongue, eyeballs and as much muscle as possible.
Set up the bucket 24 hours before putting the skull in. I put some Dawn detergent and a little hydrogen peroxide in the water. Then I covered the base of the antlers with tin foil to protect them from the hydrogen peroxide.

Pretty nice!
