Fellas, I currently have an EMR2 which I do love, but sometimes dislike the wings (although it protects my rifle and scope nicely), and am curious if the Reckoning has the same volume as the EMR2 does? And in that same line of questioning, the black hole that is the Argali, does it have the same or more volume as the EMR2?

I think the Reckoning, if it has the same capacity as the EMR2, might fix a couple things that bug me about my current pack.

I'm pretty sure the emr2 could swallow a full Reckoning. Especially.since the max volume of the reckoning is with the collar/roll top up and open.

I ran an Argali this year and it served me very well. It's closer in capacity to the emr2 but it top load only. This definitely cuts some weight as it is literally a big bag with some webbing. The one thing it lacks is better access to what's in side. I am thinking I am going to put a full length zipper on the side of mine. Then all I'd have to do is unbuckle the compression straps on that side to access anything in the pack. This would still allow for pockets down the back panel.

Looking at the dimensions listed under the specs for each bag the EMR II is bigger around 45-43" circumference vs 42" but the Reckoning is taller at 37" vs 34". Fully expanded the Reckoning is listed at 6500ci compared to 6000ci listed for the EMR II so I think they are really pretty similar in size as far as the main bag is concerned. On the other hand the Argali is listed at 7000ci based on 35" tall main bag with a 44" circumference although the width and depth dimensions are slightly smaller.

It's been a while since I sold my EMR II but the main bag on Reckoning I have been running seems to be every bit as big as the DT1 it replaced as far as how much gear I can stuff inside. For me the Reckoning is the perfect blend combining the center zip for easy loading and unloading while keeping the side pockets for the spotter and tripod. At first I wasn't sold on the fold over/roll top idea but its quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to run the bag. Only things I wish they would have stuck with was the internal water bladder sleeve and possibly added a couple mesh zippered pockets. Or at least the mounting points similar to the inside of the EMR II.

Thanks bbrown. I didn't realize the listed capacity for the main bag on the emr2 was only 6k.

I will agree that the fold down/roll top lid is pretty slick. the Argali is also set up to work like that if it's not completely full.

Thanks for the replies, it is hard to look at specs on a web page and visualize actual bag dimensions. Guys that have and use the bags helps out a ton, thanks!
My EMR2 is hard to beat, but an Argali with side zipper as described above would be killer with a guide kid on top!

After having a zipper on the EMR 2, when I used the Aragali last year I felt like I was going back in time. A zipper is a must to me. A zipper added to the Arigali would be good. But if I were to go away from the EMR 2 I would for sure go with the Reckoning. I REALLY wish Kifaru would have gone with the compression straps inside the batwings with only one buckle to keep the batwings together between the two batwings and then 2 compression straps inside/underneath the batwings. The would have made the batwings much more usable under a load. Oh well....life goes on and def 1st world problems. ;)

Yeah Luke I really don't think I'm getting away from my EMR for the 10 day plus hunts, it just flat out works. Room for improvement but it's an awesome bag for sure. And I have one, thanks to your recommendation! The bitch of it is that Kifaru comes out with more bags and I go "that might work great TOO" and then they put shit on sale like the Argali, and my inner child voice says "I gotta have one of those too!" And I could still afford to put in a side zipper and try that out. Like you said, first world problems! Let's go hunting : )
