Emergency shelter options

Six Moons Gatewood Cape. a poncho and a tarp. single pole but I have also hung it bwteen trees. I never leave home without it. I spend many rainy hours every year in the OR cascades sitting under my gatewood watching for a passer by.

Firebox makes an Ultralight Poncho/Hammock/Tarp that's made in USA, 9oz. There model is closely modeled from some Onsi Gear Poncho Tarps that are also worth checking out.

The Eolus in Cuben fiber from Seek Outside is my choice. Zipperless, floorless, hiking pole supported shelter. Pitches great in the Cuben fiber and weight is less than 2 pounds. I added a down quilt from Feathered Friends outa Seattle and I have a very light mobile impromptu style shelter when I'm inclined to move fast and forgo all the luxury of a standard camp.
Seek no longer makes the Eolus...

Check out the T6zero micro emergency tarp shelter from Colecracker Bushcraft. 5.6oz weight, packs down inside it’s attached bag to the size of a baseball, and is designed to be setup in less than 1 minute between 2 trees with 2 stakes. Check out the instructional videos on the Coal Cracker Bushcraft YouTube channel. Dan Wowak, the star of the YouTube channel (good dude) and the designer, wanted a shelter that could be set up easily, quickly and was small enough to be carried every time and never left in the truck because it’s a little too big for “a short trip” Mine has become a permanent place right beside my TP. I’ve used it as a quick rain shelter and also spent 2 nights under it on the mountain this year during the rut. I’ve also set it up with 2 trekking poles, just need 6 stakes total. Good piece of kit. Probably best bang for the buck.
