Elk rifle for my wife

This would be a great rifle.

Not sure of your stance on 223 but I took down a cow with ease at 410 yards this year with one.

Can always thread them too if you hunt supressed (I do)
I would like to stick with something similar to a 270 she will have more confidence shooting, but I have seen many mule deer and elk drop like a sack of potatoes with a 243

I would prefer that if I can find one. If not I was eyeballing the browning xbolt2 hunter in 270 win.
I have a browning A-bolt in 270wsm. It’s been my favorite and go to rifle for about 17 years now. 270 would be a great choice and you can buy great factory ammo off the shelf just about anywhere.

I'm a second vote for this. I got my wife the Camilla in 7mm-08 but they offer several chamberings. It's a gorgeous rifle and the stock is specifically made for women, with a negative angle on the butt pad, a shorter length of pull, raised comb, etc. It's basically 90% of what you'd want from a true custom but at a good price and readily available.
I'll 3rd it. I have the same gun and it fits the needs for my wife.

Hey other gun is Savage Ultralight in 6.5 PRC. She can shoot that gun better than anything else I have. It's light, plenty of cartridge and an adjustable butt stock. So it fits her nicely.

Other than the stock savage triggers, which i replaced, it's a great gun.

Seekins fan here. They have a lot of good lighter caliber options. A used element would be a good one for her if you don't want to pay full price. They had one at Scheels here in Tulsa for right at $1900 but 7mm PRC may be a bit heavy for her caliberwise.

There's a lot to like about the Sauer. Until the eurooptic sale ends, I think it's the default answer to most "what rifle" posts.

I'm looking for a new elk/mule deer rifle for my wife. She currently has a semi automatic 30-06 that is notorious for jamming. I'm really interested in a 280 Ackley improved but I'm not interested in any of the rifles I have found online. How much does a custom rifle run on a budget?
Buy a fierce. They shoot exceptionally well for a great price. 7prc suppressed is nothing for recoil. If not suppressed go 6.5 prc.

A number of folks on here are proponents of tiny pills moving fast for big game. The .223 for everything crowd. They may be on to something but we have a long of history of success with larger bullets on larger game - .277 and larger. I'd let others experiment with the tiny pills and put my wife (and myself) behind a rifle chambered in a proven cartridge. The .280/.280 AI or 7mm-08 strikes me as a great choice and the Camilla is a solid rifle in a configuration designed specifically for women. You can spend more going custom without gaining anything in real world performance. Why do that?

The Weatherby Camilla like was mentioned would be an excellent rifle to consider. I've shot a couple Weatherby rifles and they seemed to be a solid rifle. The rifle in a 280AI would work well too. I sure like mine. It hits hard on game but doesn't seem to kick badly. A 25-06 would also be one worth considering as it loaded with a 110 gr. Nosler Accubond or 120 gr. Paritition should work nicely.
