Elk down in UT

Last week I was lucky enough to take this calf in UT. Originally I was looking for a larger cow. However after a quick assessment of my situation-Solo, limited cooler space/ice, pretty decent vertical climb and a lengthy hike back to camp I was convinced she was the one. After a very short calling session she came straight in and gave me a 15ish yard quartering to shot. Hit a perfect double lung on a shot I happened to have practiced all preseason at home. I stayed another 4 days in hopes of helping a friend who showed up a couple days later tag out as well, we got into many more branch antlered bulls but hunting a spike only unit we came up short. All in all it was a fantastic trip.
Bow setup for those curious-
21” whitefeather lark
Long blackmax 2.0 40# (about 48# at my draw)
Black eagle vintage 400s cut to 32 1/4
100gr inserts
125gr two blade cutthroats
Total arrow weight is 555gr

Good luck to all of you headed out soon.
Ryan

Good job. Those burn areas can be fun to hunt. Did you pull it in with some cow calls?

Thanks for all the kind remarks! Like most others I have dreams of taking the biggest bull on the mountain- but this time this calf was the trophy my freezer needed! Was just a fun hunt and a memory I’ll cherish for a long time

Nice job. I'm hunting elk with traditional gear in Utah as well. Going out for a 4 day stretch over Labor Day weekend. I thought there was only like 4 of us traditional archery guys in Utah, but there must be 5 lol.

You must have a helluva draw to be pulling 48# on those limbs on that riser. Most of theirs are rated on a 17in riser and you lose a pound per length of riser over that. With a 21" riser you must be looooong armed😂
