Looking for recommendations on what to buy.

A lot changed since the days when I was a bowhunter and used a call for elk. I'm headed out to a unit where the bulls have a tendency to talk a little during rifle season in late October. I've heard from those who've hunted the unit that the bulls don't come in but they have responded to a bugle on a regular basis.

With that said, where do I start? I used to use a diaphragm and tube but so much has changed. This most likely won't be a regular occurrence but I want to be prepared.

Recommendations on both a brand of diaphragm and tube? Any videos you'd recommend on on Youtube that has some good info on calling? I'm hoping it's like riding a bike but it's been a looooong time!

Phelps grey or white, Rocky Mountain hunting calls black magic. I don’t have a preference in bugle tube

I have found that the Hunter’s specialties Wayne Carlton reeds are some of the most forgiving for my mouth. Pretty similar to the primos which are based on the Rocky Mountain. Just a personal preference but I don’t have to work as hard to get great bugle sounds. Love Phelps and Rocky Mtn as well but in a pinch or after a couple months off I go back to the Carlton. Bugle tubes are all pretty close.

Elk101 3 pack is a good buy in my opinion. All 3 reeds are a little different, and it will give you an idea of what fits your mouth and sounds good. Lot of people recommend Phelps as well. I just haven’t had any experience with them.

the gray Phelps is supposed to be the easiest reed to start with

Rocky Mountain yellow is easiest for me

Answer really is: the one you practice the most with. Some are gonna fit well, some are gonna fit awful

I've been working with the Phelps EZ Bugler - it works great if you cant deal with diaphragm calls!

I recommend a cow call that works best for you, killed more bulls using a cow call then trying to bugle at them. Could be my skillset but just my prospective.
