Everybody wants their slice of heaven, then nobody else gets it...... South Lake Tahoe is doing something similar.

It’s been a growing problem for years. In conversations with local ranchers many have cutoff access to residents due to past trouble with following rules.

If we are lucky enough to get access via a handshake or WGFD (Walk-in or Hunter Management) , we need to do our best to be good representatives of the hunting community.

However, the good ol’ days may be gone. These landowners see the non-resident tag prices and understand the value and demand for such properties. Hopefully we can find some attractive incentives to allow public hunters access state resources (elk).

Growing problem indeed! Mike Koshmrl/wyofile has been on this beat for a while now.

One of my favorites comes in this article: https://wyofile.com/elk-wars-inflated-herds-spur-committee-duel-radical-proposals/

If you want your hackles raised, check out this quote from rancher Juan Reyes regarding a proposed solution:

Wheatland-area rancher Juan Reyes charged that Game and Fish was “depriving landowners the opportunity of profitability.”
“That’s a taking,” the Cuban-born Reyes said. “And I came to this country because of socialism.”

Juan Reyes, of Wheatland WY has taken over $1.5 million in 'socialist' USDA farm subsidies since 1995.

NR landowners won’t allow hunting but resident landowners do? BS. It’s all pay to play, NR and Residents alike. I get tired of this attitude that the problem is always NRs. These states thrive off money from NRs and their vacation money but blame too many problems on the hand that feeds them.

That's a bit naive. Look at the participants in Access Yes. Yes there are still some billionaire ranch non-resident landowners that let the public kill cows on their land, but there are many more historic family ranchers participating in the program. Additionally, the latter group is more inclined to let the average folk hunt on their property if you know them and ask/lend a hand on the ranch.
