thanks for all the feedback, as i first suspected, i will be going the gas route, will be splitting mostly hardwoods here on the WV/VA border. Will work in some manual splitting as well for exercise! wont forget that
Outstanding!! , Any idea how the sign guy went about the lettering / logo?, Vinyl template then paint then distress ????Made them with leftover hickory flooring. Took them to a sign guy to put the lettering on them. Took him pictures of actual boxes.View attachment 523387View attachment 523389View attachment 523390View attachment 523392
Can’t remember exactly. He had me finish the wood before he painted it. I showed him actual boxes on the internet. He did have a computerized vinyl lettering machine. When he was done I believe he lightly sanded some of the lettering to fade it out and look naturally aged. I had a bunch of rusty old nails. I cut them down to about an inch and drilled the hickory to drive them in. Box is 21”x 47”. I try to cut my wood 15” to 16” but that doesn’t always happen. The box will take 19” long pieces if I end up with them. I put a 3/4”x4”x5’ board in each end of the box and I can stack 5’ high.Outstanding!! , Any idea how the sign guy went about the lettering / logo?, Vinyl template then paint then distress ????
Hard to tell from the photo but it looks like you have at least 1 circle stack there.
No they’re all on pallets in rows with space to walk between .1 circle stack there
Ya know i may jsut try this route for now and see how it goes before i purchase the log truck of wood to have deliveredDon’t know what shape your in, but I bought a used gas splitter cheap and wish I’d just rented 1 every few years to split the tough rounds I couldn’t get with a Fiskers X27. I like hearing that maul split wood and it’s fast.Hard to get big rounds over 20” up on the horizontal anyway.
About 2 stacks done with the splitter out of of 12 -cherry some oak and dead elm.
