For those of you who have an ecodiesel, how many have gotten the recall done and what changes have you noticed? I am a tech at the dealership and never get a chance to talk to the customers after about driveability.

I had the recall done on my 2015 Ram. My check engine light came on a few days after and I felt a considerable loss of power off the line and very sluggish drive on city streets. I took it to the dealership and they said the check engine light had to do with the catalytic converter. The dealership put in a new catalytic converter. On my way to pick up the truck the dealership called me saying the truck was still sluggish but may be due to the aftermarket engine air filter I had in it (bullshit). After returning the truck the following week Ram said I was not the only recall customer experiencing a loss of horsepower however, they do not have a fix for the issue yet. I am not happy with the customer service or the truck. It is not the same truck I paid for and is borderline dangerous when going from a stop and onto a main street with traffic approaching. The truck does not go when I step on it and almost have to floor it before it jerks into second gear and picks up momentum. The truck does well on the highway and I haven't noticed reduced fuel economy. I will probably end up getting a gas truck for hunting and a honda commuter in the future.
Interesting, I talked to a few techs at training the other day and they are saying the same thing. As far as the aftermarket filter I agree with you the filter had nothing to do with it. I have also heard many techs say that after the recall they end up doing the scr or other emission related parts due to the system being more sensitive but they would have failed anyways just not as soon. Thank god for the extended warranty on these parts right?

My buddy took the $$ for a trade in on his 3 yr old Ram Eco diesel....$27k I think he said. He bought a ram 1500 limited gas with the eTorque.

He said he was getting 26 on long highway trips with that truck.

I have a 2018 and after a recent update my fuel mileage is not the same. 4-6mpg less than when I first was driving the truck.

My buddy had issue after issue with his and that dang check engine light..........after so many attempts to fix it, they took it back under the lemon law.

It will not fix the issue with the ecodiesel. I had $21,000 dollars of warranty work on mine. All of it was emissions related. Tore that shit off deleted the def, sent my computer off. Its like a brand new machine now. Plus I gained 6 MPG.

My cousins wife has a grand cherokee, no issue prior to update, poor mileage after and tons of issues, it is at the dealership now.

I'm guessing it will stay there she has no faith in it anymore!

Amazing what deleting that crap will do for the newer diesel trucks

Do you recommend not having the recall work done? I have a 2016.

Also Ryan mentioned he had the emissions stuff taken off and computer changed- about how much was that? And do you have a recommendation where to send it?

Thanks

The emission issue is the problem. SO as long as it's on the truck it will continue to have problems. It's choked down too much to run right. All said and done it was $1850.

I have a 2015 eco diesel. I was about to take a month long vacation with my wife and my check engine light kept coming on, going off, coming on ....
So I had been getting the recall notices and thought I would take my truck in for the recall and get the “check engine “ light cleared off.
I called the dealership and spoke to the service manager. He set me up an appointment the day before I was to leave on vacation. I asked him if there was going to be any performance loss with the recall. He replied ‘oh yeah’ ‘lots’. He said there would be a decrease in power and fuel efficiency. I told him I wasn’t too hip on that. He flat out told me that I don’t have to do the recall and he said if it was his he would not do it.
So a few days before my appointment I crawled around under my truck giving it a visual inspection.
There is a large electrical connection attached to the frame straight under the drivers door. I noticed the two plug ins were not fully connected. So I pushed them together and locked the clips in place. ( I am not a electrician and don’t know the terminology)
After my visual inspection I got back in the truck and started it up. The check engine light was now off.
I canceled the appointment.
I put over 6000 miles on the truck since and the check engine light has not come on since. Before that it was all the time.
After the 6000 mile trip the truck averaged 26.7 miles per gallon.
As of right now I’ll pass on the recall update.

Gotta love it. Technology has given us the ability to build such efficient, strong running motors. But, "edumucation" has put such a constraint on it, that we don't get the benefits of it.

Diesels used to be efficient. My 2001 7.3L PSD crew cab long bed used to get 22mpg going 80 on the highway with the non-ULSD fuel........with ULSD.......not even close.

It will be interesting to see how these "New" 3.0L diesels perform. I remember all of the kinks in some of these "New" motors...including Fords eco boost when it first came out. Now Ford has worked out the kinks.

Ram coming out with their 3.0L the end of this year. I thought about it...but so many changes with that motor-most seem positive like water cooled variable turbo- but I will let some else work out the kinks. I went with the Gas version and the big rebates.

I test drove the Ford 3.0L- drives nice and the low RPM torque range almost guarantees great mileage. But its $4k more for the motor.....

Chevy...duramax is a proven motor...but this new one is completely redesigned too....

I’ve got a Duramax along with the Ram Ecodiesel. Both have their purposes. We really like the Ecodiesel for traveling because of the fuel economy and ride.
My Duramax travels well but I have to keep the cruise set to get the best fuel economy.
My Dmax has a camper shell so I can hop in the back on long solo trips and catch some zzzz’s.
I bought both new so I’ll be driving them for many years to come.

No issues here.....................................................................yet.

Thanks for all the info guys. If it were my pickup I would be with Ryan and not do the recall and delete the emissions. I know in MN they are starting to look at pickups and make sure they have it on still otherwise they are giving tickets so just be aware of you do delete it.

No emissions check where I live so luckily I don’t have to worry about that.

Ryan also said he picked up 6 mpg with the delete and new program- what’s you average mpg now?

Thanks again
