Been shooting CE maxima reds for a couple of years now and they're pretty accurate but I've killed a bunch lately and they just seem to fragile to me and I'm tired of paying $15 an arrow.

Looking to switch to Easton fmj or gold tip or something else. Fmj looks good but don't like what I've read about them bending. Gold tips seem pretty popular and reasonably priced. Opinions?

I'm shooting 60# dw 30" dl hoyt vector turbo if that makes a difference.

I've shot 340 FMJ's for years and I personally have not had one bend. I'm not saying it's not possible or it hasn't happened. I retired one this year since last year it killed my bear and then an elk. I have been looking at the Gold Tip Kinetic Kaos. If I was to go back to complete carbon I'd go that way. I've also used the Maxima Pile Driver with no problems.

I use FMJs an the only way they bend is if you really jerk them out of a target or shoot them into something stupid. Normally using a little common sense mine don't seen to have a problem. These arrows pack a punch!

I've been shooting FMj's since they came out. I've yet to have one bend, even shooting into something stupid from time to time. As the prior 2 posts said. use some common sense and FMJ's will suit your needs well.

I tried FMJ 300's a few years ago. I shot them into target butts with the heavy rubber backing for three weeks. Arrows were always buried to the fletching. They shot great for a couple weeks, but the groups started opening up so put them all on an arrow spinner and the last 6-8" closest to the point were all out of round. Wobbled when you spun them. This certainly wasn't from pulling them wrong, just wondering if the heavy rubber matting did it. Haven't used them since. I think if more people put them on a spinner they'd see that they aren't in fact perfectly straight anymore. Especially people that say they've been shooting the same dozen for years.

I also had one hit a stake inside a 3D target, and a pole behind one of the target butts. Those arrows were toast. I've hit the same thing with my TR Crush 300's and Kinetic 200's and the arrows hold up but the FP's mushroom badly.

The Kinetics are great.

Shot with my buddy the other day who had fmjs. He missed a target and hit dirt when he pulled the arrow the tip was bent. Obviously shouldn't miss the target but that just seems fragile to me. Been shooting the goldtip hunter XTs for the last two years and just switched to the kaos for this season. Really like how they shoot and the heavier gpi. With a little extra weight up front they pack a punch

I have been shooting fmjs for around 5 years ish and had one bend after hitting a tree. any carbon arrow would have shattered. wouldn't change here. Chevy vs ford... CHEVY ;)

I have hit trees, railroad ties, and even skipped my carbon arrows off of rocks after passing through grouse and such, and have never broken or shattered one by this. However I did have to break a couple off that stuck so deep inside a railroad tie that I couldn't do anything else with them. If it had been my tie I would have cut it up and gotten them out, but figured the range wouldn't be happy with that.

I am not sure of the difference if there is any between the old FMJs and the new Deep 6 FMJs, other then the obvious . My experience is only with the Deep 6. I think they royally suck balls and if I wasn't hunting em in less then a week I'd be chucking em all in the burn pit. About a month ago I started strictly shooting broadheads out of my bows and I would get some flyers and after playing with shit came to realize some of my arrows were bent, causing these flyers. Threw 2 of them. These were normal use non hunting practice arrows.. On top of that, ive been shooting into a Glendell and let me show you these FMJs don't like anything hard in those targets. 2 more arrows down the shitter in the last couple weeks. Funny thing is I don't recall all these issues shooting carbon. And 5miles is right I bet if people spun test them more they wouldn't be happy

After this year I will forever be staying away from anything FMJ. Each their own though I guess.

Figures, I'm a Ford man

The one thing that I don't like about the FMJ's is the GPI...almost impossible to get FOC to 10-15% with my .300 spine arrows without going over 500 grain total arrow weight. I am looking hard at black eagle for next years setup or perhaps gold tip kinetics...shooting gold tip pro hunters now at 478 grains or so with a 14% foc...the only thing is that when I shoot a smaller diameter arrow into the same target they penetrate more even at a lighter overall weight and lower foc. I am learning that, as with most things there are a lot of trade offs when it comes to arrow selection.

I am curious if the people bending the insert end of the FMJ's are using a broadhead adapter ring, essentially a washer to protect the end of the shaft and spread out the force. I don't own any currently but have a couple laying around that I played with about 8 years ago. I never bent one, but I didn't shoot them very much.

I like the ACC Pro Hunter shaft much better than the FMJ's. Do they still make them? They don't have the HIT insert which I can't stand and the aluminum is on the inside so it won't get dinged up.

ACC Pro Hunter is discontinued.

I shot fmj's. And I bent a few. I had to treat the fmj's with a little more caution than I did straight carbon. I still thought they were tough. I'd shoot them again if I needed the weight. Without hesitation. Just know if you get fmj's that you need to be a little more careful. It's not a narrow that will handle stump shooting well, or letting your kids rip out of targets sideways. It's got aluminum and can bend.

My favorite standard insert arrow has to be axis, however, the injexions iv been shooting for some time are solid arrows. I'll be sticking with them for some time. The micro diameter, thick carbon wall and nice smooth finish, is just awesome.

Have also shot gt kinetics. Another good arrow, I just prefer easton.

Never cared for carbon express...

^iv got a hand ful of arrows that look just like the one in that pic! from various manufacturers. Break that metal ring on the back of the slick trick by hitting something hard and it doesn't matter what brand is behind it.

Why aren't you happy with them?

They were expensive for what they are. Nothing really special about them and I've not been real impressed with them. and I've had a hell of a time getting the halfoutserts to not pull out of the shafts, and I don't like the nock bushings. I did not have this problem with the kinetic XT's I shot the year before. I've got 18 out of the 24 i originally had. 14 of them are shooter arrows. Once I'm out of them I won't order anymore. They are pretty sturdy and tuff arrows though. Easton axis are just as good an arrow and I can get them 40 bucks cheaper a dozen. I'm really pissed that they got rid of the kinetic XT's they were cheaper and basically the same arrow.

Gold Tip guy here.

one year buddy and i started shooting at small game. just giddy fun. hitting rocks and soil, i never broke an arrow. not a single one. the ones lost were sent flying into oblivion. same in AZ. dumb rabbits!! GT arrows are tough!! i find i lose them or smash them against each other which is what diminishes my supply. i dont break them buy hitting things. okay..an animal wearing my arrow is known to take an arrow apart..but i dont blame them :)

i never left GT after that day shooting at rocks. as a matter of fact, i still have a single arrow from my first dozen ever. it is so old, the company didnt even put their logo on the shafts. they are plain unmarked black carbon. i use it has a hood prop. its a souvenir at this point.
