Easton 5.0 review

Found this thread regarding the 5.0’s.
Yesterday I drove over an hour one way to Scheels to get a dozen of the 300 spine match grade factory fletched arrows. Had Scheels cut length for me, and I took the HIT inserts home to install myself. One of the arrows was cracked and when I went to install the insert and broke like a piece of spaghetti. How it didn’t break when the tech was cutting them I don’t know. I don’t think this was anything the tech did or it was any shipping damage (box was intact and none of the other arrows look to have any defects… I have flexed all of them multiple times… haven’t shot them yet).

This looks like a factory defect so I called Easton right away yesterday. They had me email them pics of the arrow to get to their quality team. They were very nice about it and said they would make it right for me ( so assuming they will sent me a replacement arrow). I also called Scheels and told them what happened, they were also very good about it, and said they would replace the arrow, but like I said it’s an hour drive.

I’m a bit scared to shoot these as I’ve never had this happen before! View attachment 866362View attachment 866363
I just had the exact same thing happen at Scheels in Meridian ID. Luckily I had the tech cut shafts and install HIT's so he immediately found the bad arrow. He flex tested the other eleven arrows and they were are all good. The tech assumed it was from shipping. Break location was identical to yours.

I have not shot the arrows yet, I still need to fletch them.
There are some people on Archery Talk documenting similar experiences with the 5.0s. IMO I would not shoot these currently. If you wanted light weight 5 mm arrows, I'd go RIP TKO or HLR

Another update on the 5.0s, I’ve got just over 600 shots on nine of my arrows. Everyone is still in perfect shape and spinning true and that’s after a lot of impacts of hitting each other in the target.

I have split the nocks of two and put a small gouge in the carbon but no splintering or cracks after flexing them

Just back from an axis deer hunt. Using the 5.0 with a 340 spine. They are so light they almost feel like toy arrows. I have 125 grains up front for a total arrow weight of 417 grains. Match grade with the impact collar it comes with. They’re traveling at 290 fps.

Impressed to say the least. They all zipped through any deer I shot with them to include busting through scapulas with mechanicals. Some impacted rocks on the far side. No broken arrows and all still spin true. Excited to keep using this setup.

I've got two dozen 300 5.0 match-grade arrows. Put them together myself and put them on the spinner. All good. 28", c2c, 29.25 DL, standard hit, 4 fletch and 125 grain points. TAW 423. I would imagine I'm close to 300 fps.

I shot the western classic and easy impressed with the arrows. I shot my alpha X-2 instead of my Invicta. I do prefer 4mm arrows for 3d shoots but these did well.

Are these breaking and cracking more than usual because of the thinner and lighter construction?
They don't seem to have an issue with breaking. I've shot mine quite a bit and recently shot a 3 day, 75 target course with 12 other people. I normally have at least one arrow get broken (standard axis 300 spine) but this year I did not have one failure. It's not scientific by any means, but they were durable enough to handle people pulling arrows out of 3D targets and having other arrows slap into them while in the target.

When I shot the Victory 3DHV, I broke a lot of them during 3D shoots. They were pretty light and fragile in comparison. But shot really well.

Hmm I’m interested to see where this goes. I’m not a new state of the art guy. I’m more of a “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. That being said I still like my compound over a long bow. There’s always a chance for improvement but only testing them out will tell.

I tried these because I got a new bow and needed a set of arrows for this one. My other arrows are axis 300s and weigh 523 grains. The newly built arrows are 423. I'm not one to just tinker with stuff just because.

Brace height, axle to axle are different, as well as a slightly longer DL on my new bow. The combo makes for a really fast arrow. Not sure on speed but I would guess somewhere around 290 fps, vs ~270. This is my most favorite bow yet. Very easy to shoot.

I have shot the 5.0 the last few months with only breaking one, stuck it in a tree and broke it trying to pull it out.
