For me, bugling response last year was great for the new moon and horrible for the full moon. I'll definitely be planning mine based on that this year. But I need to figure out those full moon hunts as well. I know it's not the moon's fault!
I've never hunted early (only done a few hunts though) so was thinking of trying that this year.
Late they seem to be somewhat hesitant to come into a call if they already have cows. Obviously there's different strategies to deal with that but I'm curious to try my luck early this year.
We had bulls bugling through out the season for us. Not going crazy but they were going, obviously talking a lot more during the last week but i enjoyed the first 2 weeks of season more this year for sure. But its always hard to say because every year seems to be different.
I typically go early, less hunters and hoochie momma calls to irritate the ever living crap out of me. Has always treated me well, kill
Them in their bed!
We've killed all our bulls 2nd half. But I guess for me it would depend on the terrain. We hunt thick timber so we have to rely on calling. If I hunted in more open, I would most likely like to spot and stalk in the early season. Less cows (eyes) around the bulls.
Not that it matters to the world but if I had limited time I would arrive around the 12th of Sept. But seeing I got plenty of time being retired, I'll probably show up on opening day of Archery if not before.
