I ended up going simple and it might work fine. Just used u bolts to attach a 1 1/4 inch piece of red oak to the frame. It was super easy to pull my wife around the neighborhood, but it got some strange looks. I will load it up and give it some test runs on a trail soon.

Any feedback with this setup so far?
It is good. I have hiked about 10 miles with it just to work out the kinks. It definitely work best with weight forward - just like a trailer and a truck. The most weight I have hauled is 140 pounds, which was fine, pretty easy even up a moderate hill. My hunting partner tried it out a month after meniscus surgery and he was sold - he’s working on similar trailer.

Please get some pictures of the cart and meat on top of you if possible ;)
I took it last week on my moose hunt, but my pack out ended up being like 2 feet, so I haven’t gotten it bloody yet. Next up - elk season.

What cart is that, and did it come with those tires or you swapped them out?

Put me in the camp that pushing that thing would be better than attached to your pack.

Did you try just pushing it?

I can understand trying to rig something like this. I need to do something different next year myself. I just got done making 3 elk loads from a spot 6 miles from my quad at the TH. Thankfully, I just had to get it 4 miles to a motorcycle trail where a buddy could help...but still it was a rough 24 mile pack out.

That attachment looks fantastic! I have done something similar with a pulk in snow and eliminating any play in the system increases efficiency a lot. Any slack makes the whole system lurch back and forth.

What if you added two side mounted wheelchair brakes to those angled pieces right next to the tires? They mount to round stock and are pretty inexpensive. It may help on an incline if you need a break. You could reach back and lock them on, or get partner to do that.

I hunted a NWR few years ago that allowed only bicycle or foot traffic, rigged up a game cart to tow behind a bicycle, didnt work well. We ended up hauling a Nilgai out, caused the wire spoke wheels of the cart to twist and deform into ovals by the time we got out, had a 300 lb limit. Carcass had to be hauled out intact to the road to be checked, now they allow quartering. Was going to replace the wheels with nylon garden cart wheels but ran into issues with axle diameter. Friend makes his own cart using the double wheel chair wheels designed for substantially more weight than 300 lbs.
