I’m currently using a Stone Glacier Kiowa in a number of different roles… work/personal travel, day hunting, and shorter 2-night backpacking trips with <25lb load outs. It works very well for day hunting and traveling, and does a pretty decent job on backpacking trips.

I have been contemplating adding a dedicated ultralight pack just for the backpacking trips. It’s a pretty easy way to knock off a few pounds, but I’m not made of money. The Durston is attractive because it seems to be a lot less $ than anything else.

Anyone used this pack for hiking? Would I be disappointed if I’m spoiled by excellent SG suspension systems?

I don't have specific experience with the Kakwa, however, my backpacking pack is an Osprey Exos. I don't think you'd be disappointed with a lighter pack, especially if you're talking sub-30lbs loads.

Personally, I don't notice much of a difference in comfort between my two bags, when carrying the appropriate loads.

Thanks, that is great feedback. I even wonder if it could replace the Kiowa…
