At 63 I'm right behind you Northerpiker! I shoot a bunch of bows (selfbows and trad stuff) that range from 48# to 65#. The heavy bows don't get shot a lot anymore and will only get less in the coming years. That being said, the bows I shoot the most are right at 55#. That weight still feels pretty good!

62 and shooting 60 lbs but I've been shooting 60 for a long time. Try to shoot year round, weather permitting. Lifting weights 5 days a week helps as well... use it or lose it.

I was shooting 68.lbs.
I‘m now shooting 64.lbs at age 61.
I can still shoot 68 but 64 is much more comfortable and accurate.
Thanks,
Mark

Teddy Roosevelt was probably talking about antler size and draw weights:
"Comparison is the thief of joy"

70 yo
Recurve / longbow: 44-51#
Compound: 51-60#
I can shoot heavier weights on the practice range but I like a little lower weight during the excitement of the shot in a hunting moment so I'm never distracted by the bow especially tree stand hunting for deer in cold weather.

After killing an elk with a 50# longbow, complete pass thru quartering away, I realized draw weight with modern bows has minimal importance compared to arrow flight/accuracy.

Only started shooting a compound a cpl years ago after 50+ years of building/shooting trad bows....

My first compound deer was shot at 7 yds(70 lbs) from a ground blind. Double lunged....

The arrow was going faster after the pass through than my trad bows can muster through a chrono,on a good day....
