Thanks for the reassurance guys. I've found my 2 trip method to be the most practical. Happy hunting

Dragging even a quarter mile sucks.

This is a sore subject for me, wi dnr makes dragging almost mandatory.

I drag my deer out of the woods, only to quarter them out on the lawn.

When you weigh 145lbs, and hunt swamp country, dragging sucks
in wisconsin once the deer is registered you can do what ever you want to it. So if you register it by phone in the woods you can then proceed to bone it out, throw it in your pack and head home. Although if you are on public land you are still required to remove the carcass.

Definetly some gray area with thier online registration. That's what I meant by almost mandatory. They make it a pain if you can't register with the 5 piece rule and even if you do bone it all out your still going back to drag out the rest of the carcass

Don't go with 550. It has to much stretch. It is designed to stretch so there is not so much shock when a parachute deploys. Find a rope that does not have stretch to it. Otherwise you will be fighting yourself the whole time.

Same as in WI, here in Iowa you pretty much have to drag a carcass out whole. I have used an old military sled when there is snow on the ground. I am thinking of finding or making a SCEDCO. Basically a thick plastic sheet that you wrap the carcass in and it slides over the ground. We used them in the military to move casualties pretty easily, so a deer should be no problem. Combine that with a few caribiners and rope and you can pull them up hill and lower down steeper hills. Would much more prefer to bone out, though. Plus you are not suppose to leave carcasses on the landscape, a bigger deal now that we have CWD in the county.

Dragging blows, but as stated is pretty much mandatory in WI. I found an old aluminum deer cart and put 26" bike tires on it for this year. Hopefully I report back on how it works by the end of the weekend.

I quartered up another doe the other evening and packed her home in my EXO. It was much better than hiking home, getting the FJ and then dragging her to it. Thanks.

God Bless.

We always drag our deer. Sometimes it really sucks. I've never even given thought to quartering until this year's buck. After all the research I've been doing it thought about how nice it would have been to have thay weight in a pack vs dragging it over logs/uphill/getting caught on shit.

I shot this WT buck out in Nebraska on Friday and there was no way I was gonna drag him out so I did the gutless method and took him out in one load on my Kelty Cache Hauler

No different than when I am packed in the mountains 5 miles with 7 days worth gear. Debone it and pack out everything in one trip. I always use a pack big enough to do the job. All my Kifaru packs compress small enough to work as day packs and expand large enough to haul out all my gear and meat.

What do you guys that go way in say 1-2 miles with a lock on, sticks, and a small back pack do to pack out a boned out deer?

Best method I've come up with is to go back to the truck with my stand then switch to my MR Pack and go back in after the deer.

Killed this deer in a shit hole Monday was no way I'd drag through all the rocks. I cleaned all the cloths out of my pack and quartered him up and brought him out. My buddy put my cloths in his pack.

After that trip it shows I need a better pack. I use a badlands sacrifice pack 3800 cu I'm smaller framed (5'9 145) and it didn't fit me well with a heavy load. I need a better frame pack.

Here are a few pics
